driver door lock and dome light
driver door lock and dome light
Hello,
I just recently bought 02 Civic SI Canadian model. There are two issues and are both with driver door. If anyone can suggest anything I could try to fix them it is greatly appreciated
1. When I open the driver door the dome light does not come on. I found the switch and it turns out that it was pushed inside the frame but still attached to the cable.
2. My second issues is when I hit the power lock button only the passenger door locks, but the driver door still stays open.
What I think has happened was the previous owner closed the driver door and the switch got pushed in and stayed on all the time causing the sensor having the dome light on constantly and maybe showing a warning that the door is open. So I guess they either decided to fix the problem by either removing a fuse or cutting some wires and snapped both power door lock wire and the door sensor wire. The passenger door is fine and doesn't have any of those issues. Does anyone know where to look for those wires and what colour they would be?
Thank you.

Re: driver door lock and dome light
go buy yourself a haynes manual. All the wiring diagrams are in the back, along with wire colors.
Re: driver door lock and dome light
I had the same issue you had (door open sensor pushed back so the door open light wouldn't turn on). It was a pain in the a$$ bc if when I opened my passenger side door it wouldn't register that I had opened it and would automatically lock itself again (safety feature). This sometimes left me locked out of my car!
I just removed the inside paneling and remounted the switch where it was supposed to be. Very easy fix considering the dealer wanted to charge me a $75 diagnostic fee! Definitely do this yourself... there should be a DIY around the forums that will tell you how to remove the panels. I think I found it under the rear deck removal DIY. As for the door lock issues... you'll probably just have to remove the door panel and look around to see if anything is out of place. A Haynes manual, as RiceBoy mentioned, wouldn't hurt either.
Try this link...I believe it's for an 01 coupe but should still get you where you need to go

Your main concern should be to remove driver's side rear panel...so don't take your whole car apart. Just go as far as you need in order to access the door switch

Re: driver door lock and dome light
I think you're right, I put the switch back on and the light started to work, so I guess they didn't cut any wire. Tried the door lock and it won't even push in manually, so I have to take the door panel off and just see what is going on. Thanks guys.

Re: driver door lock and dome light
The driver side door won't lock unless the door is closed.. The only way to push the lock down manually with the door open is to push the lock down while you pull the door handle out (as if you're opening the door). It's an interlock mechanism to keep you from locking yourself out

It's a pretty simple task to remove the door panel. If you were able to put the door switch back into place the door panel will be easy also. Doesn't hurt to just look around

to manually lock the door, you gotta pull either inside or outside handle, and lock it
If your power locks are still not working, it might be the actuator, which is a common problem apparently on our cars
