wiring into illumination????

I just got my new alpine head unit today!!!!!! anyway, i also got a volt gauge (autometer) and was wondering if i could run the illumination from that gauge into the illumination lead off the wiring harness and cdplayer... if this is dangerous or something, could you recommend another place to get illlumination from for my gauge?

the illumination wire is a signal wire to illuminate your HU when the ignition is on, Your best off wiring your volt meter to your HU's +12v wire.

how does that illuminate the gauge though? the gauge needs to be hooked up to a constant power source (12v) and then the little light needs to be hooked up to a illumination lead. doesn't that mean i have to go to the illumination for atleast the lightbulb part of the guage?

nope.. all that the illumination wire does in simple terms is tells your HU to light up....It turns on a relay hooked to your +12v wire which then powers the lights/display
