Safest current draw off battery for sub amps?
I'm looking to add in either one or two 8" Subs, but I was looking around the ELD thread and I was wondering what do you guys think would be a safe current draw off the battery without dropping the voltage below 12.5 or so, because I don't want to change the alternator yet. I couldn't really find anything in a search.
I'm not looking for anything big, I was planning on using an Audiobahn Dub1002 amp bridged, which probably pulls around 13-18 amps (20 amp fuse), which would be 220wRMS/440wPeak bridged at 4Ohm.
I don't know how much the rest of the car draws (lights, heater fan, wipers, defogger, etc). I have a 2F Capacitor also that I was going to plan to hook up, which should help somewhat, but I want to see you all think.
I have the capability to install and test it out, but I don't want to buy the speakers and build a box if it isn't going to work properly.
Is there anyone out there who is running the stock alternator with around a 200-400w amp without problems? Or is there a certain way to hook it up to the detector the right way or through a fuse point?
-Phil
edit: probably would go with one Infinity Reference 850W in a ported box.

just run a 4 or 2 awg wire through a AGU fuse then to the battery. u should be fine when ur setup. when ur engine is on, it'll go above 12v (most likely 13-14v)
Re: Safest current draw off battery for sub amps?
I agree. You will be fine with the stock battery and alt. 2-300 watts rms isnt that much power. Im running 300 watts rms with stock battery and alt and its fine.
Re: Safest current draw off battery for sub amps?
you have nothing to worry about buddy....im running a 12" kicker l7 and a 750 watt kicker amp and a 200 watt alpine amp on stock battery and alternator...my lights do not dim at all, and im having no power issues.. Just make sure to use at least 4awg wire. And do not waste money on caps...they r worthless most of the times.
Re: Safest current draw off battery for sub amps?
ok cool. I would think it would be able to run an Audiobahn A8000T mono amp? This is my actually sub amp I used to run in my truck. At 2 Ohm it is 800W RMS, but 4Ohm its 400W RMS, which is what I would run it at.
Re: Safest current draw off battery for sub amps?
I think that as long as ur system doesnt draw more than 40-60 amps u should be good with stock electricity. I wouldnt go over 800 watts rms of total power on stock power. Just look at the fuses on the amps and add the total...dont go over 40-60 amps on stock battery/alt.

but seriously, even with my 600w, i dont even turn it half way.
i can hear my car, windows rolled up, from inside my house with half way.
