Power lock fuse problem
Power lock fuse problem
Hey everyone,
Recently, my power locks weren't working and found out that the power lock fuse was broken in the fuse box under the hood. I replaced the fuse with one of the spare 20amp ones and the power locks worked again. I tested it a few times to make sure but the fuse broke again. I replaced the fuse again but this time using one of the 30amp ones which lasted for a few days but now the fuse broke again. I'm assuming there is some electrical problem that is causing the fuse to break but I wouldn't know where to start to check. Does anyone have any ideas???
Thanks!

Hey Craigw,
I own a '02 acural el, equivalent to a civic sedan. The locks don't seem that tight at all but then again it's not loose. Would having tight locks cause the fuse to pop??

Re: Power lock fuse problem
Could be a tough one. Not sure if a bind would cause the fuse to open or not.
Do they move up and down quickly ??
What # fuse in which box are you replacing ??

Re: Power lock fuse problem
exactly!!!! doing this is just begging to create an electrical fire. fuses are sized based on the wire size. putting a larger fuse in will allow more current to flow through the wire than it can handle. it will get hot and possibly catch fire. fuses are there to protect the system when there's a problem. if the fuse blew, you have a problem. if it blew multiple times, then you definitely have a problem. for a fuse to blow, power has to get shorted to ground. so somewhere, you have a wire or component that is shorting out. i know that's probably not much help, but i wanted to get the fuse safety tid bit in there.

I am replacing #16 (20A) fuse which is the power lock fuse described in the manual.

Re: Power lock fuse problem
#16 in the under hood box has constant power and runs into the multiplex unit located inside the under dash fuse box, At first glance it appears to be the source for the actuators supply. I will post up the theory when I can get to the electrical manual, it may have some details.
There is no theory section for the system in my electrical manual (some pages are missing from the scans)
I would install the fuse back in and avoid using the keyless/power locks to see if it still opens.

Re: Power lock fuse problem
Hi, i have a 2002 Civic DX 4dr My Cd player has been acting weird (not reading CD when cold) So I decided to give it a gentle tap now the power to my CD player is gone and strangely enough at the same time my Power locks are not working with my keyless entry remote. I have checked the fuse under the steering wheel for my CD player and it is not blown. Any suggestions? I have been searching the web for hours and can't seem to find any.
Thanks.
Thanks.
