Installing headunit with built in navi.....

Hey I just bought the pioneer avic-d3. It has that built in navi, and it has 2 wires that need to be hooked up for it to work properly. A speed sensor wire and a reverse detector wire too. Now im not to sure on where these two wires belong because it is not written anywhere in the installation manual. Im pretty sure they hook up to the ecu or the harness around that area. If someone has any knowledge, please help a brother out.

Thanks

I was reading the manual and it says it could throw off the gps alittle because it wont know how fast you are traveling so it could have wrong positioning of the vehicle....I dont know how true that is but it makes sense though..I would rather have everything hooked up that way it works how it should.

Reverse is only need with back up cam. I agree with boxcar VSS isn't needed.

However, if you're a stickler:
VSS is blue/white behind the instrument cluster or the cruise control actuator under the hood.

yes you do need them. especially the VSS wire.

ofcourse ur navi can take a lock on satalights, but hooking the VSS further enhances ur navi making it more accurate, and it ensures all that cool digital built in guages work.

you need to tap ur navi VSS wire into the car's VSS wire.

the car's VSS wire is located behind you're glove box.

ur going to need to take off ur glove box by removing the two black holders. just pop them out.

then using the provided T-tap (you can also get this at ur local hardware store) you will tap the blue/white wire.

The wire is blue with white stripe.

+1 for me

I'd like to give a big thank you to all the people who donated time to create DIY's on this site. Good job.

I've also got one more tidbit to add about the Civic vehicle speed sensor wire (needed for some navigation systems). I looked all over trying to find which cable was the right one. I found the description for a 2005, and tried it in my car but with no success. The stereo shop wouldn't tell me, the honda dealer couldn't find it on schematics, so I called Kenwood and they helped.

I must also say that I am very happy with the support given by the Kenwood techs. They are helpful, quick to answer, follow through and you're not talking to people in India... these seemed to be real Americans that knew somthing about the product they were supporting.

Here it is.. for a 2003 civic

On the fuse/relay panel start at the upper right corner. The second row down of green plugs, all the way on the right side of the box. The wire is blue/white. (that is a blue wire with white striping) In my car there was also a solid blue and white/blue (white wire with blue striping) right next to the blue/white, so be careful which one you tap! I had trouble searching out the VSS wire and getting the right answer, so I figured I'd post about on here for anybody who needs it. My little contribution.

youre gonna love that pioneer man. I have a d2 and the only complaint i have is that you can not simply download gps updates like swith portable ones, rather you have to buy a new gps dvd (cheap as hell on ebay, or you can dl them from some sites)
