Remote Wire Help
Remote Wire Help
Ok when hooking my two amps up for the 1st time I admit I have made a handful of mistakes my most recent is buring out the remote wire on my HU. I used my multimetter to mesasure the voltage it was giving out about 1 volt on that wire. Giving that I have a few question that I couldn’t find answers to on the fourms.
1. Is this going to be enough volage to power on an amp ?
2. When I get a relay will this be enough power to make it work? And with all this in my trunk can I tap my 4 guage power line from the batery to the amps amps?
3. If this is not enough power from that wire were else can I go to power the relay or send power stright to my amps?

Re: Remote Wire Help
Your remote wire should be giving you around 12v with the car off, and around 14.4v with the car on. If your only getting around 1v, you should fix your ground wire. Make sure where you remove all paint where you placed the ground wire on the car. Just use some sand paper and sand off the paint around area where your ground wire is placed.
Fix this issue first, and you'll be ok with 1,2, and 3.

Re: Remote Wire Help
I think I might have blown the remote on the HU but I did redo the ground and that did not help at all. Also Distribution Blocks really needed vs just splicing the 4 gauge cable

Re: Remote Wire Help
like envy said, use the cig lighter 12v. that way your amp comes on when key is in acc position. the only problem is the amp will stay on even if you power off the deck while driving. not a big deal i guess.
Re: Remote Wire Help
Only use the cigarette lighter wire for a switched wire, never a power wire. And 1 volt is plenty for said switched wire, the amp shouldn't require more than 0.5 volts to turn on.

2. Probably not, you need 150mA @ 12V to activate a relay. Or, a LOT of current @ 1V.
3. Cig lighter as most others have called out. Or accy wire behind the radio. Or accy power @ the ignition harness.
