What kind of alternator?

I have come to the conclusion that I need a new alternator. My lights dim when I even just push the button to roll down the windows. When I did have my stereo hooked up my car would die periodically when I played it loudly. I know its not the battery because I upgraded that already to the biggest one the auto parts store had. So all that to say that I need a new alternator, preferably a HO one because I plan on upgrading my system (2000w RMS/ 6000w PEAK ) so I was wondering what some of you guys might have bought that worked good.

Bounce Alterstart into Google and you'll find the guys who make the 170amp alternators for our Civic. They're like $330 from them. There is also a vendor on Ebay who sells the same ones for like $260 + shipping. Here is his shop Click Me. He doesn't have any listed right now, but does keep them in stock.

Re: What kind of alternator?

yea 1000 rms shouldnt be a prob at all, im running my amp at about 700-800 watt rms, (1300 peak) and i dont have a huge problem with power. (my headlights do run dimmer, if i just crank the stereo, but i dont blast my subs at night time when im on the highway). If you CAN upgrade, its always a good choice, but if not, dont worry about it

stock alt = 70A
70A * 12V = 840w max output. keep in mind it's running many other things on your car. it was only designed to maintain your car, not extra stereo equipment. that's why you'll hear people preach around here that the first thing you should upgrade in your electrical system is your alternator (besides your ground wires, see my sig). not your battery, or adding a cap. those are bandaids.
