Sub keeps shutting off

For some reason my sub keeps shutting off, and i think it's due to lack of voltage. when i have the a\c on full blast, and the headlights on, and the stereo off, it's at 12.6-.9 at the battery...so it's low. When everything is off and the car is idling, it's at 13.8..reved goes upto 14.17 and about the same at my 1.7 farad cap. I've ran all new power wires from the battery, 4 awg...from the starter, relay box, altenator, grounds, everything. grounds on the amps are less than six inches long, with self tapped, sanded connections. tried disconnecting the cap and it made it worse. Every now and then i think i hear the alt. belt squeakin so i'm thinkin it might be slipping and causing the alt not to work as good as it should...any ideas?

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

upgrade your battery to a konetic one. it matters how big your amp is pushing for your sub. my sub use to drain my battery.had to upgrade battery bat cap and that helped alot

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

So is the amp turning off then? Is it temporary? Comes back quickly?

Do you only lose sound during the voltage drops you mentioned?

What kind of amp? Mono or 2ch? Is that kappa perfect dual 2 ohm or dual 4?

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

the amp is a mono D block, it doesn't shut off, (or at least the blue light on it stays on, there's no other lights or anything) and the Kappa perfect is dual 4 ohm coils...it used to work great but just started doing this...i have another identical amp and i'm thinkin of tryin that tonight...

edit: it shuts off for just a short amount of time depending on how loud it is, and if i turn something off that uses a descent amount of power (headlights, a\c, power windows, etc.) it'll stay on longer

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

with voltage that low, i'd say you need a bigger alternator.

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

That's what i'm thinkin too, i guess i do have a lot of electric stuff and all, (remember it's a dx) i put in power windows, locks, and my m-audio for the sub, then for audio i've got a blaupunkt 500w, a bolt 400w on it's our 4awg power wire then the cap and sub on another 4 awg...I'm wondering if i need a bigger altenator or if mine is just bad...

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

How do you have your amp mounted...may not be a concern for you..but the other guys whose amp is "shutting off" is your amp overheating?

Re: Sub keeps shutting off

well, i have that same problem too kinda...but mine is simply that i replaced my blown fuse with one thats too high, and when the bass was really loud, the subs would cut out, i replaced the fuse to something smaller, and it fixed the problem
