remember that the speaker itself already takes up volume.. the 1.5 cubic feet will end up being +10% more than what you need, so it won't be like critcally out of tune..

mohawk.. what's your take on this?

it won't effect it greatly, but for optimal performance you should get as close to the correct size as possible. you can do like Mohawk suggested in another thread and screw some wood slats into the bottom of the box to fill in some space.

yeah, well, i really wouldn't want to do that because the whole box is plexi, so it would take away from the look. but i guess its not bad because of the size of the speaker.

yeah, I hope that junk is thick or else it will fall apart real quick if you bump it loud.

fall apart? lol... if it is gonna break apart.. it's gonna do it in style.. the pressure inside will blow it out.. i've seen some pics of mdf box's blowing out and leaving sawdust mounds in the trunk. pretty cool actually. haha..

but yah.. if it isn't thick enough, it'll bulge out on bass hits and that's not a good thing.

What sub is it specifically?... I'll plot it out and let you know if it'll still be cool with the 1.5 cubes .

Some subs work great in "out of spec" Enclosures... Companies always give the average best enclosure figuring an "average" Vehicle acutal volumes of sub enclosures can sound different in different cars pending Cabin gain.

Hey I've got that same sub!! I too put that sub into an enclosure that was slightly larger than the specs (1.28 cu ft instead of 1.00 cu ft.). With the sub displacement the estimated volume is around 1.10-1.15 cu ft. It still plays incredible nice and tight. Two words of advice. First, this sub craves power. I'm only feeding it 150 watts to each VC, which is just barely enough to get it to play loud enough to **** off the neighbors. Second, I'm not sure if it's because of the sub or the box volume, but the sub sounds like crap (in my own opinion) if it's not cut off below 40-60 Hz. Maybe that's with all subs (I dunno, I'm no expert). Beneath that filter range, it sounds GREAT. I'm no guru like mohawk, but I'm pretty much in the same situation that you are in MVHonda, and am speaking from the experience.

Just my 2 cents

By the way, where in world did you find 3/4" plexi?? The Home depot near me doesn't sell anything over a 1/4" thick. I once made a box with a 1/4" plexiglass face for 12" Cerwin Vega, and it sounded like . The plexi kept flexing and F'ed up all the sound.

Your much bette roff just getting an MDF box for your subs more suited to spec.. at 1.5 cubes it will sound hrriblu hollow and boomy.. SPL will take a dive.. but you'll have great low end extension...

at 1.28 cubes(1.19 after displacement) you're still Musical..you're taking a slight dive in SPL seeing as you start rolling off right at 80Hz...your FB is 52hz(little high) but not bad for 10's..

Lookin at that plexi box it's not relly worth it.. it looks cool out in the open...but when you get it's not gonna look so cool in a car.

Cheers
