HID Ballast Install Location

Hey guys,

Does anyone have pics of where you have installed your HID kit ballasts? Or know where the best place to install them would be on a 2005 Civic coupe?

Thanks!

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

I have a 2001 but I can tell you room doesn't exist! I put the drivers side by the battery. It is just laying on the frame/wires but can't go anywhere. The passenger side I tucked up under the lip of the fender but I need to go back and double-side tape it into place. Should be okay IMO.

That's where I have mine. All you need is some double-sided tape. The best part of putting them there is that it is out of sight.

Can you or italy273 please get me some pics? Or try to describe to me in details where exactly that is and how to get there? I thought I would try by myself first since its a complete plug and play kit...otherwise I can get them installed for about $65 (Canadian), which i think is still quite a bit for a plug and play kit...the only reason i haven't done it myself is because i dunno where to mount the ballasts

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

I placed mine under that lip for the hood. I dunno if thats the same lip of the fender well that people are talking about. If you open the hood you can't miss the lip. Just tuck em in there and make sure you bolt em down on both sides, I used self tapping bolts and they don't move at all.

You might have to take that mounting bracket off the ballest b/c it might not fit with the bracket. I just used some 3M double-sided tape and it is still fine. I have had it like that over 2 years and through 2 New England winters.

It is simple to install. I would do it myself.

I have a 2005 Civic Coupe, that's the previous gen isn't it, with the H4's? Would I still have the same amount of space behind the headlight with the 7th gen? Also, that means I gotta take the bumper off for sure right?

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

here's a link to my retro thread. about half way down the first post, you can see where i put my HID fog ballasts. this is an option, but it requires removing the bumper cover. it sounds like a pain, but after you do it once, it takes less than 5 minutes to take it off. just a few screws and some clips and it pops off. for my HID TSX projectors, the ballasts are just kinda chillin behind the headlights. the drivers side is next to the power steering pump and the passenger side is between the battery and the relay box.

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

I figured that the amount of time that it'll take me to figure this out and do it just isn't worth it for me...i just made an appointment to get the kit installed tomorrow for $65... thanks a lot though guys

However, electric130, how much did it cost you to install the TSX projectors (total)?

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

I got the kit installed, I'll try to get some pictures after that show where the ballasts were installed but the driver's side is in the same place as Curiouz G's and the passenger side on the platform thing in between the battery and the fuse box...

the only problem is that i am dissapointed with the colour:| I bought the 8000k O-NEX HID kit, it's suppose to be blue light but it looks more like its white!! I know the whiter colour shines brighter, but I was going for the blue look and i was told that the 10000k is purple/pink...

i don't know if it's different for HID, but in aquarium lighting, even 10,000k is bright white. you don't get into the blue until 14,000k. that said, most that i've seen on ebay for HID's show the 14,000k as purple and the 10/12k as blue. the blue may look cool to you, but driving with it is horrible. you can't see ****!

Well i don't care too much about seeing **** lol it's not like i'm out in the boonies where there are no lights anywhere...plus i had the luminics pure blue bulbs before...they're not that bright either and it didn't really bug me...Jesse from Speedfiends told me that even 10000k was purple/pink...and 8000k would be the bluest i can get...but that doesn't make any sense to me cuz i've a seen way bluer colour on cars than mine! I jus want a really blue colour cuz i think it looks sweet

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

different buld companies have different color light even with the same k rating. Company A could have a very blue 6k while company B has a very white 6k. if u want really blue just buy custom colored hid bulbs that are blue. there's a guy on HT that sells them, great service too. let me know if u need a link

the whole point of HID's is that they're brighter so you can see better at night. if you just want blue lights and don't care about the brightness, you should have just stuck with halogens and saved yourself the money.

dunno if this topic has been beaten to death or not... but on my old 2001 Civic coupe, i mounted the headlight ballasts tucked inside the fenders on either side and for my foglight ballasts, i ziptied them neatly near the horn assembly on one side & the windshield washer fluid on the other side... all close by & using the frame of the front end.

hope that helps. in 2 weeks, i get to figure out where the hell im going to fit 4 ballasts (HID heads & fogs again) in the TINY lil engine bay of my Si. d'oh!

i love that 4 door Si!!! i think the sedans look so much better than the coupes (Si or not) in the 8th gens. the 8th gen coupes just don't look right IMO.

Re: HID Ballast Install Location

Well, in my opinion the blue that the HID bulb puts out is still a lot brighter than the blue that the halogens put out..plus my halogen bulbs would dim a lot with my system, but the HID's dont..

Myinca, can you send me the link?
