Hey guys,

I have a 2005 Civic EX with the windshield integrated antenna. Lately I have been having numerous issues with the quality of Audio I've been getting from it. I live in the Philadelphia area, maybe about 5 minutes away. Sometimes I turn my car on, turn my audio on, and get crystal clear audio... other times I turn it on, and get nothing but static on every station.

Today was the biggest culprit. In the morning, audio was fine for my philly channels, but I was travelling from 5 miles away to about 45 miles away without a problem. Then when I turn my car on down here (About 10 minutes from Atlantic City), I got nothing but static... I hit the scan button, and first it found one channel that was from this area, but it was staticy and scan couldn't find it again. Ate lunch, went back to my car, turn the car on and my Philly channels are back to being perfect again. Some people have recommended that this may be the cause of a loose antenna wire, however I have to disagree. While driving around, it isn't like my stereo has good quality, then bad quality. If it works when I turn it on, then it's good the entire way. If it's static when I turn it on, then it's static the entire way.

What gives?

Have you done anything to the HU lately? I'd suggest checking that antenna wire again, I don't know what else could so directly affect radio reception. Sorry, not much help here.

I haven't touched anything with the car, I've never even taken the radio out, not really about to either... it just happened one day.

sounds like the signal booster is screwd up. it's located in one of the rear pillers under a small access panel

i'd still pull the HU out and check the antenna wire. it may have vibrated loose. highly unlikely, but possible. maybe it didn't get installed all the way and has worked itself loose. i'd check the easy, free options before you have to buy anything to fix it.

Your antenna is the few strips that run across the top of your rear window-- they blend in with the defroster lines, but they have a dif pattern- you'll see.

Anyways, the rear passanger pillar panel is where your FM modulator is located. there is some 5 inch by 1.5 inch (aprox) piece of plastic that comes out with a little prying. Remove it if you want, your goal is to remove that whol pannel. Its held in my a few clips and are easily removed with a pull. I think there may be three. I take my panel off all the time and its just a tug, there isnt anything your going to break so just use a little finger grip and get it off.

That black box is the FM modulator. Inspect it for any broken or loose wires, and also look at the point it connects to the window. Something might have happened that made it f'd up.

Hopefully you'll find your problem.

To put the panel back on, fit it in at the bottom first, and then press it against the side of the pillar to pop the clips back in.
