quick speaker wire question

should i run my front speaker wires (to my amp in the trunk) on my power wire side, or with my rca's? (i remember one of them would cause interference...) thanks!

k thanks, also, a really stupid question, but i'm too pressed on time to even search it atm and my brain is blank...do i even have to connect the speaker wires from the aftermarket hu to the car harness, or should i just let em hang, in case one day i take my amp off...since i'm using the rca's? i guess the question it, will it hurt if they're both hooked up at the same time (wires and the rca's)....

You could hook them up as long as you're running your custom wires all the way from the amp to the speakers and leaving the stock wire harness unhooked. If you do do this, don't forget to seal the ends of the stock wire harness up so they don't short out on anything...

sorry, but i'm a bit confused. do i even need the rca cables since i am planning on running the wires from my speaks to the amp...what did you mean by "you can hook them up"...since you said that i could leave the harness wires unhooked?

why not just use rca? the best setup is rca from deck to amp, then speaker wire from amp back to the stock wire harness speaker wires. Idk why you would want to run new speaker wire directly from the speakers to the amp. or do you mean you need to hook up wire inputs to the amp (instead of rca) and then run wire back to the speaker. does your HU have RCA? if it does, use it!

well if you are running high enough power, i wouldnt use stock wiring for speaker wire. and speaker wire generally doesnt matter what they are next so since the voltage they carry is high and its AC current. it rejects noise fairly well. RCA's on the other hand are much lower voltage and should stay away from noisy power cables. in my opinion, i think its the lazy mans way to hook up an amp if you just run speaker wire from the amp to the crap stock harness. its just like putting a bunch of extra resistance in the wires since now the signal has to travel twice the distance.

ya i didnt think of that. i'm only running 30wrms per speaker so i didnt bother with new wire, but its good to do. i still need to upgrade the deck power/ground cables instead of using crappy stock harness.

i'll do a compromise...back speaker wires will go into my amp > rca to my hu, and front ones will stay on my harness, with rca > amp as well. should work just fine.

i wouldnt do that, if anything id do just the opposite.. i mean if you ran wire all the way to the front, id just finish it that way if you decide to upgrade in the future you can. or if you decide to return to stock, you can just plug in the old harnesses. im running a decent amount of power in my car so stock speaker wires are out of the question. not to mention they go like twice around the car before getting to the speaker. believe me ive taken out the whole interior.

i'm running 55 rms on each speaker...is that too much for stock wiring? also, if you hook up a 16awg wire to a harness one, does that mean the 16 awg becomes an 18, or will it put more preasure on the stock one? thanks.
