Looking for louder than what i got
Looking for louder than what i got
alright, i want to get as loud as possible in my civic. my current set-up is 3 12" alpine type r's in 2.25 cubes a piece tuned to 33hz. for power i have a orion 2500d. So the r's have about 850 rms to each sub. i want to get high 140's or even break a 150 on the new termlab meter. i know it is not easy to break a 150 but i want to. i am looking for new subs or a single sub to run at 1 ohm or 0.5 ohms on my 2500d. i have 1/0 power and 1/0 big three, and will possibly get a new alt. if the member on here gets the small block chevy alt kits done. let me know your thoughts on this.
Thanks,
CHris

hitting 150 in a daily driver tuned system on a new TL meter, will not be either cheap or easy
hitting 150 in an spl tuned system that would sound like *** playing music, is a different story
so I have a few questions I would like answered:
1 - daily driver music system, or pure spl one note competition system
2 - any budget constraints?
3 - coupe or sedan?
4 - how far are you willing to go install-wise (i.e. walls, removing rear seats, etc...
5 - who's doing the install, and how much experience do they have
the reason I ask, is because 150 is not easily done, regardless of how often you see it published on paper.

1.daily driver, tuned low
2.~400 for subs, have everything else, used equipment is fine
3.sedan
4.thinking of sealing trunk from cabin and have port/subs behind seats.keeping the 2500d.
5.me and a friend, pretty good experience, won local sound off 1st and 2nd place last year. experienced in box building.
ideas so far are sealing the trunk off with either 2 12" or 2 15" orion h2's at 0.5ohm tuned b/w 33-35hz with 3 4" aeroports or 1 6" aeroport.
believe me this amp can do it, i will be running it at 0.5 ohms

kicker makes an 18 inch kicker solo X. 2 would probably brake 150.
link to some on ebay.

tuned in the low 30's, i doubt youll hit 150's.
just being brutally honest
now, if you still wanna do a pair of h2 15's in a quasi-wall, what you could do is have interchangable ports to have it tuned low for daily, or high for competing.

also with these aeroports i would be able to change tuning pretty easy
and this set-up tuned high,is possibly a 150?

first off, your trunk including everything is 10+ cubic feet easily.
a couple guys have tried sealing off the trunk and cabin from each other for spl and haven't done too well.
is that 2.25 per sub sealed or ported?
also, whoever reccomended the dual-chamber tri-tuned enclosure has an idea that might work IF you want to get into building a more complex box design that requires a lot of exact measurements.

My idea was not to actually use the trunk as the enclosure but to build a box that fires into the cabin behind the rear seats with the trunk completly sealed from the face of the box. Orion recommends 2.25 ported, And that is about all i can do b/c each sub displaces .48 cf and the port displacement will be around .5-.75 cf. DO you think the aeroports would make a significant diff, over a regular slot port?
my 2500d is on the way now, and i am pretty set on the two h2 15's for my subs. Mainly because of the small space requirments

well, that may work.
but like i said, a dctt enclosure could be exactly what youre looking for.
if you don't know what it is, it is in essence a ported box tuned at two frequencies, one low, one high.
if you're interested, I can help you design one here

man, 36 x 16 x 30 is 10 cubic feet...
you could do a hell of a lot of damage with 10 cubic feet available.
a dctt requires the same amount of room as a regular ported box.
if you will give me an evening to find my notes, i will give you exact formulas and such, but basically
two chambers, one is 2/3 of the box, one is 1/3
3 identical ports, slot or pvc are easiest, one from chamber one to front face of box, one from chamber one to chamber two, and one from chamber two to front face of box.
