Sedan Speaker Rear Deck installation
Sedan Speaker Rear Deck installation
Yes, I know they are 6.5's.
The only problem is, every time I try to research it, everyone just acts like the rear speakers fit right in. The only issues I have found are the front door which I have taken care of thanks to the spacer I got.
6.5's don't fit in the rear holes. They are too small. No one seems to have adapters that I have found. I have dug through the forum looking for the info. What's the deal here?
Anytime I call a local install shop it is always "Dude, the rear of a civic is 6x9"... "That's for the coupe..." "Oh. I dunno then".
I have tried three different model 6.5's. All can line up on a single hole, but that is all she wrote. How are you sedan guys installing these? The diys mention nothing about this problem. Any help/links/etc are appreciated, I am going insane here.

i made my own little brackets out of wood to go from the stock hole location to just inside the large hole, where the speaker would then screw in. i included one over the one hole that matched up, so the speaker is level. not a hard fix at all.
PM me if you want a pic or two.

I aligned one hole and put a mark on the other 2 holes through the stock holes. Then drill a new hole on the speaker's metal frame. That's how I made my speakers fit on 3 rear stock holes.
(Note: You have to be really careful when drilling 2 new holes on your speaker frame. You need someone to hold it for you)

zip tie? now thats a custom install. Little off topic, but did your car get repoed?
Thanks for the help so far guys. I would be interested in seeing your setup from underneath, gearbox.
Attached is a rough diagram of my issue. The speaker just isn't big enough to cover all of the holes, and I can't just drill because there would be nothing to drill into.
Light blue = speaker
Dark blue = speaker mounting bracket
Big white circle = stock speaker hole
smaller white circles = stock mounting points
Weird thing is, I have tried three different 6.5s. Polk, Panasonic, and Clarion. I'll prolly end up picking up those infinitys that gearbox has. Thanks again.

Ok, so I stopped by a local car audio shop. The guys inside knew exactly what I was having trouble with after I explained it. One of the salesmen said "Oh, you need a 'TRUE' 6.5" and the other one agreed. I grabbed the JLs that they had and brought them outside to my naked rear deck. They fit! I drove home and threw them in on my lunch break. As was mentioned before, only two of the holes on the JL fit, so I threw some extra dynamat under the open side. Works like a charm. So, thanks for all the help guys, apparently 6.5 doesn't always mean 6.5. I hope this thread helps a few other sedan owners.

Everything says 6.5, but I didn't break out the ruler or anything. These fit GREAT! (THE JLs)
The polk DB650s, however, fit the front door with the use of the spacer, but no luck at all on the back. Fit just like the diagram that I posted earlier.

The clarions I had earlier didn't fit either ( same issue ).

go with what sounds good to you, and then drill some holes if necessary. my infinity kappa 62.5i's came with adapter plates and lined up with the standard 3 hole honda speaker mount.
crutchfield is great when ordering stuff, they give you all the things you need to do your installation. only bad thing is they cost a fortune when compared to other online sources.

crutchfield is $$ but you're guaranteed the best online experience and get tons of crap along with your order, catalog, stickers, manuals, etc. very cool.

well you just have to calculate, say if they have a deck for 300, but another place has it for 150. you can pick up the harness and dash kit for 20 a piece, which is still cheaper than the 300.
but you cant match the customer service of crutchfield. returns are way easy.

Like someone else said, self-tapping screws dude. I have kicker rears, the holes did not line up at all with the stock ones, so first did the deadenin, then drilled holes, then screwed in the self-tappin screws
