Remote Start Dangers?
Hello guys, I have been contemplating getting a remote start for quite some time now. Just looking at CC and seeing some DEI Remote Start/Keyless Entries (don't want an alarm) for a reasonable price. Saw this nice inexpensive one for $160 installed.
Well talked to my dad about it, cuz I still live at home. I'm fortunate to have a garage to park in, but still needa get my car warmed up in the morning. My car always runs crappy when it's cold. Well anyways, his main issue with me is me accidently hitting the ignite button, and have co2 leak into the house and kill us all. Is that plausable or do Remote Starts come with things that prevent that?

You shouldnt even attempt to start it while its indoors. Most of the time you have to hit 2 buttons on DEI remotes, either 2 buttons at the same time, or the same button twice within a second of each other. There isnt any accidental non-start feature available on them really.

it depends on how the installer programs the unit, but the default is to hit the same button twice within a few seconds of each other. crack the garage door and youll be fine.
Most remote start alarm systems shut themselves down within 10-15 mins anyway. But in that time frame, I'm not sure how poisonous this carbon monoxide would be. I would say get the remote start and park it outside if you are worried about that.

I have an automatic so I don't have to worry about that. During the non-winter seasons I have a lot of stuff on my car, don't really wanna park outside and get jacked.
^^ thats a good idea really, once you hop in the car and turn the heat on, it will start blowing heat immediately, and its better on the motor too rather than just a cold start take off.

My remote start has to be set in reservation mode in order to work. If I leave the car in gear, it won't even attempt to start, no matter which buttons I hit. But it is a Compustar, paid $600 for it.

I don't want an alarm. They're nothing but a nuisance cuz no one pays attention to them first of all, and someone who wants something from my car will get it one way or another. When I think of an alarm, I think about how I used to go through the parking garage at the mall with my subs and set a few off on each level. That's all alarms are good for, being a nuisance. I park in the garage too, so there goes most of my chances of getting jacked anyways.

thats why i have a responder. whether its a warning chrip or the alarm, it pages me what area of the vehicle is being impacted.
yes, it is true that a thieve CAN get whatever they wish from you. but the security purposes are to prevent that and give them a hard time doing so. 15-30 seconds mean alot to thieves.
