AMP/SUB Install Question for 2005 Civic EX SE

(2) SONY XS-L122P5 12" SUBWOOFERS +1600W SOUND STORM F-2800 AMP + MONTEGO DESIGNS BPC-360 ENCLOSURE

Above is the link to a Sub/Amp combo I bought off of ebay (edit: can't post direct link, sorry). I know you get what you pay for, and I dont expect a whole lot. The price seemed right and I liked the way it looked, and I'm sure they'll serve all the needs I have so I bought it. My question is, after reading other threads, is this a lot of power to put on my OEM alternator? Does anyone recommend any mods to the electrical system, or am I being silly? I'm also installing a sirius receiver, and a friend recommended installing a FM modulator while having the dash apart. What was he talking about and where can I get a good deal on one? Last thing, since it is a 2005 Civic EX SE with the silver 6 disc changer is there anything else I need to buy to install all of this stuff? I have a friend who is a professional at this and have him doing the install, but I don't want to bother him too much and thought I'd seek help else where before running to him again. Thanks everyone

first of all, you have the same HU as me, and it has an aux input in front, so you don't need to get the fm modulator (crappy sound), you can connect it directly in front of the HU. And yes u are being silly, you do not need to upgrade anything for that amp (it exagerates it's power). And if your friend is a proffesional, he will know what to buy when it comes to installing it.

Is there anyway to utilize the AUX jack without all the wires dangling in front of the HU? I want this to look as clean as possible. Thanks for your reply.

you could hide all the wires and just have the minijack coming out of the dash and plugging into the front. In all honesty the sirus modulator isnt that bad, when the tuner is turned on it cuts out all the other frequencies besides 88.1 I recommend it to all the customers who are getting it installed in their car. Its not going to be as good as aux in, but pretty close.

an in-line fm modulator will sound worse than using the AUX jack in your opinion? I've also been reading old posts on the subject, and someone recommended to get a PIE adapter or something similar. What the hell is that? I guess I should start a new topic for this since it no longer pertains to the amps/subs.

if i were you, i'd take out the HU, openen it up, and solder the wires from the output of the sirrus receiver right to where the aux jack is inside the HU (so there would be no wires at all in front of the HU, just the wire going from the receiver to the back of the HU), but that's just me, i know alot of people would not be comfortable doing that, but if your installer wants to do it. Anyways, i never used a fm modulater, so can't really tell if it sounds that bad, but alot of people say it sounds like s**t. If your not too fussy about the quality of the music, I'd say you'd be fine with the modulater.

the fm modulator wont sound as good as an aux in jack because it still gets transmitted over an fm frequency. The PIE adapters are good, but arent useable with your deck since you have an indash changer allready.
