My charging system went nuts tonight and is now pegging my voltmeter way over 16v. At idle the voltage drops to 15v or so. As soon as I rev the engine, it pegs the voltmeter. When I rev the engine, the ABS and SRS lights come on. I assume those systems are shutting down to protect themselves from over voltage. The dash lights are crazy bright too so I now there is definitely a voltage problem. Questions is....is it the alternator (has built in voltage regulator), Electrical Load Detector (ELD), or possibly even a bad/broken connection somewhere? Any help is appreciated.

Probably, but don't know for sure. Just had it bench tested to confirm it's pooched and replaced it. All good. Information from the local honda dealer and from the rebuilder confirms the alternators in these cars are problematic. One of the larger honda dealers in town tells me they have never sold an ELD, but have sold about 30 of these alternators over the past 3 months....
