Very high quality product. I had it in my old truck, but went back to Alpine. The user interface is very nice and the features cant be beat really. Its a great unit if you have the money.

I have the one without the hdd. I love it. The navi has saved me from getting lost a couple times. I didn't get the 5495 because the one I have plays MP3 CDs. The DVD picture is high quality. Got nothing bad to say about it.

alpine iva-d901 and that eclipse are both stinkin' badass. all depends on your needs as a user to decide which unit should buy. I dont believe the d901 has navigation built in. D901 is also geared toward the audiophile, however I am not sure what the eclipse has in that respect. I will have to check the specs on the 2 units when I get home, but basically if your needs are navigation, eclipse, if your needs are high end audio, alpine. they can both connect to ipod, alpine makes an oem ipod adapter for their units, and there is an aftermarket adapter available for Eclipse, I believe it is made by Peripheral.
The 901 does not have nav built in. The alpine piece needs the NVE-N852A, which retails for around $1900, in addition to the 901. I have the 900 and I absolutely love it. I sold the eclipse for it and added the additional nav unit. Its picture quality surpasses everything else out there, its like watching a 7" plasma. Seek times are extremely fast, and I know that the 901 can read up to 1200 mp3s that are burned onto a DVD, not sure if Eclipse can or not. The 901 is also SAT ready for either sirius or XM, Eclipse is only Sirius.

The 900 has been kinda slow in my experience. The d900 has 1.4 million pixels where everyone else has only 300K. The screen IS the best on the market. I heard a rumor that it only sees 255 MP3's but I've never tried it.

ya i read that the 901 doesn't come with nav but you can get it for it. but the specs on video is way better almost double to triple more (dots) than the eclipse and the resoloution is way!! better too 800x480 to like 480x260 or somewhere around there. i dont really need the nav but i heard when you get it its awesome so i might as well.. but in cali you cant have a tv where the driver can see it cause its illegal but if its nav its fine so thats one reason im leaning toward eclipse so i dont get in trouble unless i can get a super good price on the alpine with nav

Thats true for the 900, for the 255 mp3's on a dvd, but the 901, and the IVA-D310 can see up to 1200 mp3's. Have you looked into the IVA-D310? The new Alpine Nav unit, which is also dvd based in another unit is touchscreen ready and extremely kickass, Alpines always on top. As for soundquality, the Alpine wins over the Eclipse also. God bless optical out.
