LOL you punk!
Anyways, sound yes a necessity for me. I like to cruise with tunes. And sometimes I like to show it off, and everyone turns their heads and starts dancin in the streets haha! LOL if you like music as much as me, then go for it!
For a good system you're looking into spending about 2,000. But if you're after just something noticeable, I think about 600-800 should cut it
Do you have any specific questions?

Got me on that one.... I'd agree.... I worked at Tweeter Audio and Video.... You NEED to find someone who works at a car audio shop if you don't know anyone already. Unless they are trying to screw you, you should be able to get speakers around 50% off, and decks for 30% off or more.
Fortunately I still have a cousin who works at Tweeter and hooks me up. Seriously though, don't just jump in there and buy some cool gear for full hit. Talk to some members in your area and maybe they can save you some cash.... (I'm in San Diego, CA.)
As far as system goes, you can get something decent for under $1000, but the real head turners for around $2K.
Hope this helps.
hey Diznavis - if you are looking at getting a MP3 headunit take a look at the Kenwood Z828 - I just got one and it works very nicely, even with the stock speakers (which I'm gonna replace out, as soon as I can get the cash ) The unit is around 400 bucks, over at crutchfield - go have a look

i was looking at that exact model yesterday. anyone else have it and have any complaints about it? i like to know all the bad stuff before i buy something (the good is easy to find)
sound system is the most important in my opinion. You'll always hear it, so might as well make it good. I got 1.5k in mine and it's pretty sweet, but looking to spend about 500 more to finish out the sound (tweeters). 2k is a good estimate if you want a good quality system.
you can save on things like Amps by getting high quality amps used, the same would go for really good speakers, like Focal. I'm trying to save for some Focals myself, but I don't know if it's gonna actually happen. For Example, the amp i have for my sub, is a Phoenix Gold XS2500, 500Watts Bridged at 4ohms. Got it for 300CDN (200US), and since it's quality, i'll have to try hard to break it. In a store this amp would go for quite a bit more. you can generally save over 50% by buying used. But you've gotta choose the right stuff. Subs aren't always a good idea used, because lots of people abuse them.
But on topic, audio is a must. Although it's not always worth spending a lot of money to start off, as better deals can be found, if you have patience (watch for them). Start off with an HU, then maybe add speakers. Then Sub(s), and an amp for the sub(s). Then Insulation, then a 4 Channel amp for your speakers. That's the order I think is best. But all in all it doesn't really matter.
