have 2 idmax's, but want my trunk back

I have 2 12" idmax's but I miss having trunk space. What do you think I should go down to? I was thinking 1 IDMAX. but maybe I could get a better sound or more output with a different kind of sub altogether. I hate to get rid of the idmax's. What do you guys recommend? I want max output with minimum space. Think I should just keep one of the idmax's? thanks

one sealed 12 would be good, maybe a xxx or an alpine type x

Or you could just put your IDMAX's in a false floor configuration and put grilles over them, maybe even recess them a bit, and put a vanity panel over them. Hondasales has a setup very similar to what I describe.

1 12" idmax in a sealed box is only going to take up about 1.8cf. You could buld a box 11.25" deep x 14.25" high x 15.25" wide. You could probably make a box that fits in the side well area between the back of the car and the and the rear wheel. Getting rid of one wouldn't hurt too much. You will probably not notice it much.

I kind of feel your pain. I'm still pondering what I'm going to do with my 2 idmaxes in my hybrid. I start by losing a chunk of space just with the hybrid battery. I am leaning towards dropping one of the 2 maxes and just running one but I haven't made a final decision.

yeah it hurts to let one go. You think it won't make much of a difference? You think it would be tough to make a box in the sidewell? I had that idea before but thought it would be difficult to get a pure sealed box out of the angles you would have to do w/o going fiberglass and costing more $$ that I don't have. Anybody ever seen anyone have subs in the sidewells?

Look at my boxes. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...28_18_full.jpg

I probably could have removed a bunch of the box going toward the front of the car and added an inch or two more depth and had more usable space. I am going to redesign them some day. And Like I said. I may get rid of one.

To know what effect you will get try just unpluging one.

Might I chime in here. I would reccomend a single IDMAX in a 1.3 cuft sealed box. That is not a lot of space and is exactly the size recommended by Image Dynamics. Anything larger than that is a waste and you could probably get away with something a bit smaller if you wanted to. I recommend going sealed because of a larger overall frequency response and the space you save. However might I recommend also to get dimension from someone who knows how to use a calculator. anymore question don't hesitate to ask.

jumping in late, but do you use your trunk/cabin boundary? you have two struts to either side of your trunk (the interior panels wrap around them). they would make excelent mount points for a baffle. the only trunk space taken is literally the size of the magnets. and the amplifier.

But you lose your trunk/cabin boundary running an IB enclosure. Its something to think about....

custom2k1 would be a good guy to talk to about it. he has fit a pair of 15's and a trio of 12's the same way in the past.

and cruising Elite would help answer simple ways of dealing with the rear deck (including not even worrying about it)

IB, and dealing with out skeleton of a rear deck. Anyone up for a glassing party? LOL.

Seriously though, it's a good idea, just how practical would it be for this guy? He wants to keep trunk space true, but what are his skills? IB is often a tricky task to undertake, and one wiht little experiance, well, I might discourage from DIY'ing. But a good shop should be able to handle it rather easily. How much you wanting to spend?

thanks for all the replies, sorry I haven't responded, been busy. I think I'll just go w/ a sealed 1.5 cu ft enclosure. IB would be sweet, but I do use the folddown seats and whatnot. plus, I will sell the other IDMAX. I'll be moving to downtown baltimore and instead of getting 2 IDMAX's stolen, i'll just lose 1. Thanks for the advice people.

Just go with the one. Make sureit gets good clean power and you will be set. I had 2 in my car for 2 days and just went back to one for space and power considerations. Works great. I would recommend a smaller enclosure with the IDMAXs, just make sure that it is SEALED. And dont screw the amp to the box.
