Running wire through seats for headrest LCD
For those who have installed headrest LCDs in their car, how did you run the wire through the seats? I am expecting these http://cgi.ebay.ca/2-x-INNOVATEK-IN-...QQcmdZViewItem soon so I need to decide how the wire is going to be run thru the seats.
It doesn't look like the wires for the headrests come out the post, so I will have to find a way to get it from the headrest into the back of the seat, and then do something else to get it out the back of the seat at the bottom. I was out in my car earlier to see if there way a way I could get the back of the seat to come off, but I didn't meet with any success.
If anybody with some experience with this can give me a bit of a rundown or supply any little tips that will help me, it's much appreciated

i'm at work so i cant see but i think there is a zipper of some sort at the bottom of the back of the seat, if not, use a metal coat hanger and run it down, poke a hole and run ito through the center console

i don't see a zipper anywhere, but it looks like there is some kind of clip or something holding the back of the seat on... but I couldn't figure out how it comes apart or comes off or whatever.

My 01 with leather had a zipper. I would, however believe, should there not be a zipper, it's have a u-channel thing much teh same as the rear seats. May be a zipper on each side that is about 4 inches long or so. I'd drill out the headrest post if necessary, and run the wire through and out the bottom into the seats.

the zipper is tucked in near the bottom of the seat back. on the back of each seat, you should see what looks like a zipper running vertically, one on each side. down at the bottom, the zipper is tucked in.

I'm positive I don't have any zippers... I ran my hand all over the seat and couldnt find anything, but it does seem like there is something holding the back together that I can't figure out.

nevermind i just went out there again and I got it. There was like a plastic bar thing like attached to the bottom of the back of the seat and a hook sorta thing that was attached to the part that came down from the fornt and back up underneath the seat. the bar for the back part of the seat kinda wrapped around and back up and hooked into the other part. after I got that I could reach up to pretty much the top of the seat.
still have to deal with getting the wire into the seat though. I don't think putting it thru the post will work too well, the problem would be what would I do when I try to get the RCA plug through?

well, do you have your headrest all the way down or is there a space between the headrest and seat? if its against the seat just get a knife and poke a hole big enough for the wire to run through it. if its only a slit in the fabric it will be naked to the eye. and if you're worried about the hole increasing in size, just get your moms sewing kit and sew the edged of the slit to prevent it from expanding.

I would have my headrest all the way down I would think. I thought about that too, and that is what I will probably do. I don't think the slit would spread becuase I would never touch that area otherwise, it will always be covered by headrest, but it is the principle of cutting my seat that I don't like, but it might make things a helluva lot easier.

you can also see about getting the wire to go in under one of the plastic pieces from where the 'poles' come out of. not between the pole and plastic, but between the plastic and the seat fabric...

might I reccomend for placing the rca cable through, just taking it apart and then soldering it back together. I know this is not the "easiest" method, but probably the best results. Well I guess that requires knowing how to solder huh. Nevermind disregard everything I have just said. Probably too hard for most people. Stupid electrical training. Makes me think this stuff is common. Yeah, no idea. Wooo rant and rave, yeah!

I've actually considered that too, but I am not tickled pink about soldering inside my car and risking ****ing up my interior. Not that I would, but it's a bad situation waiting to happen.
I was just out in my car and it looks like I will have to cut the seat a little bit to fit the wire through, I tried to stuff the RCA end through the area around where the pole goes in and it wasn't happening. I could ALMOST fit the rca cable right down the hole for the pole, but not quite

I might be getting a bit ahead of myself though, I don't even have the headrests here yet. I'm sure once they are in my possession it will make it far easier to find a solution.

I'm thinking you decided to go with a sedan headrest. Regardless, Should you decide to run the RCA's through the headrest post, you might want to get some 8 inch or so RCA extenders/connectors and cut them and solder them, then you plug them to teh ones already on the monitors. That way, tou can't fvck up your monitors. You only risk losing the RCA's that you cut and soldered. Plus, you could, thoretically, solder outside the vehicle. Cause once you get them through the headrest you'd simply have to plug them up.

hrms, looking at the picture on this page http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_...ial/IN-737.htm it looks like the wire already comes out the bottom.
Looking at these different but similar monitors http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_...ial/IN-727.htm you can see the plug... I just hope that the plug is small enough to fit thru the headrest hole on the seat

got em today and they work quite well, picture isn't bad at all. test fitted em in my car, the plug on the end of the wire fits right into the headrest hole, seems like its gonna be a no hassle install

I have power going to them, but no signal yet. The video amplifier is sitting in front of me, it's going in tomorrow or Sunday.

they seem to be pretty good so far. they work great from all angles from what I have seen so far, and if the person in the back is at a wierd height, the headrests tilt up and down
