My custom (no kit) DVD install in dash

Okay so I have been looking at everyones set-ups getting jellous the whole time because I wanted one too. So I did somthing about it...I begged my wife to let me have on. Well once I got it I had 2 choices pay some jackass and be unhappy no matter what or do it myself, you know what I did.

I think I did a great job for never touching fiberglass or bondo before.
-I started with bondo hair, got the rough shape with 40 gritt, then moved on 280 gritt (i think),
-then used bond body filler to try to smooth it out sanding down to 400 gritt
-I used duplicolor primer then wet sanded to 600 gritt
-I used duplicolor DARK BLUE to finish and wet sanded to 1500 gritt.
-I finished with turtle wax brand rubbing compound (first the red then the green containers)

It cost me around $60 for the stuff I didn't have (almost everthing) and 2 days (most time was spent on drying time) I think I did well. I also want to say thanks to everyone who posted theirs to help teach me.

I also installed my sirius while I was on the job, you know 'cause Howard will be there soon

The one problem I am having is I can see the outline of the old opening by the fan power, cann you see it too? How can I fix this? Should I just get it finished by a pro? let me know if you can.

I love it!!! the only thing is it has a very fine line outlining the old opening, so I want to know how to get rid of that.

Didn't quite get that first part, but there is little to no glare, but I have AZ legal tint (dark) and as u can see in the 3rd pic of the original post I have a serious tint strip. I can't say that u will be as lucky w/ out tint.

Anyway does anyone know hoe to get rid of that line from the orig opening?

I can see the outline. I'd recommend going back over it with a glazing/spot putty and resanding with a finer grit (around 800) then another coat and sand with 1000 grit, then do the finishing procedures you already did.

Just to make sure I understand sand off all paint (down to bondo body filler) then fill with glazing/spot putty (everywhere or just on outline) then prime, wetsand, paint, clear, wetsand polish and that should do it?

no it is really clear, I'll admit if the sun hits it just right it is harder to see but still visible other than that no problems.
Well it depends on the movie too, dark gloomy movies like pirates of the caribbean are better at night.

That's what I'd do. You don't even have to sand all the paint off, just knock the glaze/clearcoat off of it. Make sure it's down to a matte finish, then you can cover it with the glazing/spot putty. It should fill the minor imperfections. If you want, you could even take a lightweight bodo filler (such as dynalite, rage gold, etc) and put a coat of it on there then use the glazing spot putty. To more easily find the imperfections, you might want to get it to where you'd be ready to paint. Coat it with a fine coat of light colored primer. Once you have a uniform coat, mist it with a dark color (the blue color would work fine) then lightly sand it. The places where the dark mist remains are your low spots. The single coat of lightweight filler and a coat of glazing putty should fill it, but that's a tip should you want to find the low spots. The glazing putty will also fill air holes/pores in the piece as well.

Yeah, I think I may go to silver to make it match all the stock accent pieces. I don't like that bed liner look, but I might just go w/ flat black, but still not sure.
