OK I got a problem with my 05 Civic EX SE. I installed a plug and play Sirius receiver, it’s one that suction cups to the windshield and plugs in to the cig lighter. Now to the problem, as you know the SE comes with a 6 disc changer and has an AUX port on the front of the radio. When I use the aux cable into the radio from the Sirius unit I am getting alternator noise, when I remove the aux cable the noise goes away. I know for a fact this alt noise is coming from the cig lighter, through the unit, down the aux cable and into the radio but what steps should I take to stop it? Thanks for your time.

hardwire the unit in. cut the cig lighter plug off and wire it directly to a power source and make a very clean ground.

Dammit Nick! U beat me to it!!!!

Just like he ^ said. cut off the plug and put the power(red I'm assuming) to the yellow wire on ur harness and the ground(brown/blk) to the black wire on the harness. Its that easy.

Does it have the wireless FM modulator or r u going to harwire that as well? The wireless one's kina suck IMO cuz sometimes they pick up stray signals

Let me add that it is hard wired behind the cig lighter, so basically it still is using the cig lighter for power and ground. I will take it apart sometime and try to get a better ground. I figured a better ground wound't hurt. Also I DO have a fuse on this bad boy! Thank you guys very much for your reply's.

That is not it. I have a home kit for this radio, I ran an extension cord from the shed and powered the unit up with it. I then cranked my car to see if I was still getting the alt noise. None, nada, zero zilch. Then I plugged the hard wired power cable back in and the noise reappeared. I have it nailed down, now I just have to find a better grounding location for my unit. Thanks

you can also get an inline noise filter for the power wire since it consumes such a small amount of current. I'd bet getting a better ground will fix your problem, but if it doesnt the noise filter should.
