Thinking of getting a new HU to replace the stock deck, have some Q's

I still have the stock deck in my 04 LX coupe. I have been thinking of upgrading the deck for sometime now.

Will the sound system be much improved with a new HU? while just keeping the stock speakers? I had a full system in my previous car but dont want that for this car, the only thing I will do if anything is upgrade the deck, is it worth it to upgrade in my case? Im worried that the sound wont be that great putting more power to the stock speakers....

Is anyone running an upgraded HU and nothing else? how does it sound compared to stock? I dont want to spend $300 for a minimal gain and potential greater theft target.....

As for the HU i was thinking of the Alpine 9831 if i can still find one around, or maybe one of the new alpines 9851 or 9853 if they have fixed the issues ive been hearing about.

Also, anyone know where i can buy that dash kit that keeps the lower pocket, in Canada?

with stock deck u get nice and clear sound only when u the volume is helfway or lower basicly u cant get loud.......
but when u change the hu u will be loud but u wont get that clear sound unless u change the speakers....i had it aftermarket hu and stok speaker.... i changed my speaker to jl and amp it....and now its sound real good,...
i would save some $$ and change the speakers too...

Sound deaden your doors and the stock speakers will amaze you with a new HU.

thats actually my biggest issue with getting a new HU, with the stock power there is enough rattles (depending on the song), with the more power there will be more i suppose

whats the best way to sound deaden the doors? what to use? and where to place it?

also if there was something could be done to that rear deck rattle....

you can play mp3/wma

can control pretty much every aspect of the sound and all that.

theres so many advantages. a new HU is a great upgrade that i'd definately do asap.

Upgrading to and aftermarket deck won't offer you as much gain as you're expecting, but it'll be noticable. The power will go up from around 7-10 watts to somewhere between 12-15 watts per channel. Don't go by the MOSFET, or V-Power whatever ratings, you'lll get at most 15 watts per channel, which is fine because the stock speakers are designed to run off of that much power. It'll be a tad betetr, but not much.

i think there's a big difference in sound if you change up to an alpine. i have the 9835 and it's like night and day. there's a lot of little features you can mess with. i do wish i had different speakers and sound deadening (i'll change those when i get my financials in order). but the biggest reason i bought a HU was cause i didn't get a cd player when i bought my car. so i wanted that ability, but of course, i've had my HU stolen twice now. i do think that if you're going to get a HU alpine is the way to go. i've had sony, pioneer, and two alpines, and alpine has been the best.

ive had a kenwood and 2 alpines. thee 9835 and 9855. the alpines made my stock speakers sound better then the kenwood made my 4 infinitys sound. if you get a deck get an alpine.

stocks will sound like *** if you try to put too much power behind them - keep in mind your entire system is as good as the weakest component. If you're going to do deck, I'd at least do speakers as well....

^ Def! You should save money for your speakers too or else you'll regret changing HU's. I first upgraded my deck and then bought new coaxials and amp. Now I'm lovin' the way my system sounds even without subs.
