People with Battery Isolators
Hey guys im running 2 batterys using a battery isolator and I was wondering what you guys use as the "remote" wire. I need it to only be on when the car turns completly on so that way I am only draining my battery in the trunk. It cant be on when the key is turned to accessory, only when the car is running. Also any one have any tips on mounting a battery in the trunk? Thanks ahead of time.

use one of the ignition wires to trip a relay to signal the battery isolator. As to mounting the battery, as long as its a sealed battery, just find someway to secure it so it wont move around while driving.
its a tough call. the ACC wire will still link them with the car off and the key in. you need the key to turn on the radio.
hooked to the remote line from the radio has the same problem.
if you want 100% assurance you cna drain the rear battery dead wiht the car off and start it, then you have to either run a diode isolator, or wire your radio with constant power to the ACC line and ACC to the relay isolator. that way, you dont have to have the key in the car to play the radio, and without the key in the car, you only draw from the rear battery.
its a catch 22 though, because it means you have to shut the radio off independantly from the car, every single time. though itll never flash off then back on when you start the car.
so its got good points and bad points.
