dude almost all alpines have the option to change the lights to amber, blue, green, and yellow. some even more.

anyway....i vote for the alpine. I have the 9833, its last years model but its the best head unit I have ever had. in all the cars ive had, even the beaters, i always buy alpine. and yeah dont get the 9845 because it does not come with ai-net. This little plug allows you to do a lot of things. add an eq, a proccessor, cd changer, multiple cd changers, ipod module, auxilary output, and of course xm and sirius radio. I installed this unit in my boss's tacoma. he only had stock speakers in his truck but after hearing the sound that this unit was capable of, he went ahead and spent the money for better speakers. "i dont want to waste the quality this puts out" is exactly what he said. the three preouts made it so easy to install the 4channel amp and the mono amp for his sub.

I SAY ALPINE ALL THE WAY MAN.

ps: you can check out my system at my sounddomain page, the link is below my sig.

every deck has problems. but when i worked at a car electronics shop until 4 months ago and was in charge of shipping merchandise for warranty i sent back 3 dehp360mp for every alpine deck. i have 9847 and have a 45min-90min drive to work with it on the whole way using sirius, i-pod, cd's, and terestrial radio. no problems with it and its been abused for over 8 months now. when it comes to electronics they go bad but pio isnt a safer bet by any stretch of the imagination.

I've heard horror stories about Pioneer too but the 360MP is probably Premier meaning a 2 year warranty whereas with Alpine I have until next summer then im SOL.

I found a generic remote on ebay for $15 shipped or something. Its no name but says it works with all new alpine that is remote ready. Better than paying $40 with the alpine logo on it.

radio reception is almost like cd quality, very little static. the stock and pioneer were alot worse. my old kenwood (now in dad's miata) also sounds pretty good as far as radio. I guess its the type of tuner they use.

the remote that i have is the 4187. its small and it comes with all the new decks. the other remote is the one that comes with the:

dva5210
dva9860
iva-d901

the rest of the models that are over 200 (i think the ones above the cda9830) come with the 4187 even though some some over that price still dont come with one like the xm one.

edit: here is a pic of the remote.

hope this helps

The big question is why do you need a remote if you are sitting a foot and a half away from the radio? I have used my remote all of 2 or 3 times since I got my car 3 1/2 years ago...

would that smaller remote work with the 9847? Cause the other one is too big and expensive. Oh for some reason people that sit in the back insist on playing with the radio, so I'll just throw it back there for them to push buttons lol. Otherwise they reach up through the seats and I don't like that.

exactly what gearbox said, i hate people reaching up wanting to cange the station, friends will be friends.... and also sometimes i just park my car at a friends house, and open the doors, just to listen to the radio and talk, and i dont want to have to get up fromt he curb, to change the station in my car, or skip a track. yes i'm lazy but, when im chillin i have every right to be

remotes are good to memorize the buttons and not worry bout looking at ur deck to change ****.
Gear, mosy alpines come with the option to change colors, even the buttons color. I would highly go with the alpine deck, i have went though a couple decks, Sony = POS SQ looked nice, and skipped like nothing Panasonic Ghost Deck = faceplate went dead otherwise, it was decent just for CDs, never had any amps connected to it. 2 Alpines, both great SQ, 1st one I sold to upgrade to a 9835. 9835 is last years model, but same internals as this year, sounds just amazing. I have also heard a couple other decks, including more sonys and some JVCs. I dont think I will ever go with ne other deck then a Alpine.

Some options to look at which I dont know much about are companies like Clarion, and Eclipse. I personally dont like how they look, but they are top end ICE companies.

well i didnt buy it, it came with my cda9833. however, i do have another one. i kept it from my cda7892. you can find them on ebay though. i think they're like 12 bucks last i saw them. the ones that come with this remote are:

MODEL Remote
CDA-9851 RUE4202
CDA-9853 RUE4202
CDA-9855 RUE4202
CDA-9831 RUE4187
CDA-9833 RUE4187
CDA-9835 RUE4187

here are some better pictures of the two remotes

THIS IS THE RUE4187, they've had this for the past 5 years and still use it on some models

THIS IS THE RUE4202, this is their newest version

oh and by the way both remotes are only 4 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide. i guesstimate that the with is about .75 inches.

I got the head unit for $175. the things to install it for about $30, and the remote is not at $7 with my bid. how do you like sound quality? there's more adjustments than bass/treble, but I didn't even need to use em.

For an affordable and quality deck I recommend the high end clarion decks because it gives your more than what you pay. I have the DXZ845MC deck. It has 6ch preamp outputs and 2ch auxillary outputs as well. It has a built in crossover and subwoofer control. You won't have any problems if you're upgrading your speakers and adding a sub. I was also able to connect my Creative Zen Touch & Ipod with no hassle. All you need is a Y adapter with 2 male RCA's and a 3mm Stereo plug and its ready to go. The important thing about it is its not too flashy to the eye, it almost look like stock here is a pic.
