intake wiring problem!!
So the other day my check engine light comes on and I call my buddy at the local dealership. He plugs in there little computer that tells you the problem and he said it was the sensor on my intake......so we replaced it....and the light is still on. The computer said it was an "IAT over voltage" so he had thought the sensor was bad. Then he asked one of the other guys about it and they ran the thing again with the sensor unpluged and it keeps coming up with the same error. So the other guy said there must be some sort of electrical damage. Has anyone ever had this problem before? should I look for damaged wiring or just replace the wiring harness? I need help!
ok, i know it's been a week but i've been busy.
anyway, we installed the new sensor and reset the ecu. it came up with the same error. after that everyone at the dealer just kind of blew me off. soooo, later that week i had the guy's dad take a look at it (my soon to be fater in law mechanic), he pluged in his computer and screwed with it a little because it isn't up to date but got it to work. it came up with the same error but then the computer said that it was not a typical error and that it was something in the circuit. Meaning that there is something wrong with my ecu, i figured as much sicne I followed the damn wires through the car to the ecu and saw no physical damage. then we called my friend (honda tech / friend / soon to be brother in law) and he said that if we were to "cut the wires" somewhere close to where they come out of the ecu, the check engine light would go off if there was a wire problem. We cut the wires - light stayed on. it was late and i was tired so i decided to drive home. on my way home my temp gauge never moved and my trans almost wouldn't shift (i have an atuo!) i got home and patched the wires back together and now everything works again but the light is still on. needless to say, I am pissed, and now he won't answer my damn calls because he doesn't want to deal with it.
what do you guys think i should do, just take it to the dealer and say fix it or what?

also, i've been told that the ecu is covered under an extended warrenty for either 77000 or 88000 miles. so i'm not really worried about cost because it should be covered right?

what kind of idiot would tell you to cut the wires close to the ECU? that is no way to check for a problem with wires. If the light is on for the IAT and replacing it didnt change it, then there is a problem in the IAT sensor circuit or there is a problem in the ECU for that circuit. Best bet would be to follow the ciruit diagnosis for that code from the service manaul. that way you will be checking for shorts to grounds, opens in the wire, and possibly a failed ECU. But you need to repair that wire that you cut and slap the idiot who told you to do that.
Yeah, I didn't think that cutting the wires to the sensor would shut the light off, it made no sense to me. I'm going to fix the wires right tonight, I had just cut a small piece of wire and put it in between the two cut ends twisted them and electrical taped them. After I do that I think that I'm just going to take the car back to the dealership and have someone with computer experience work on it. The guy that told me to do that (fiance's brother) is only 22 and has only worked there a few years. And he now mostly works on trucks and transmitions, not so many cars.
