im building a custom fiberglass enclousre in the trunk. im just gonna be running 1 kicker sl5 12. Should i go with the compact .88 cu.ft or the sq(.707 alignment) 2.0 cu ft. i want to know what will give me better deeper base? and i don't want to make a ported box becasue i would need up words of 3.25 cu ft and i don't want anything that big in my trunk. thats why i opted for 1 reletivly light powerful sub. and what is the loose polyfit? it says i need to fill the box 50% with that, ive never used it so where can i get it at?

Typically, a larger enclosure will net lower bass, so you'd be better off at 2 ft^3. I wouldn't worry too much though, if you're fiberglassing, if youre enclosure is somewher between 1-2 ft^3, you should be fine.

Polyfill is just the filling inside our pillow, just go to Walmart and buy a bag of the filling for a couple bucks and you should be fine. You can also use fiberglass, but that's just itchier

I'd call or write kicker and ask them what they recommend. If I'm recalling correctly, the new Solo Barics were designed for smaller sealed cabinets. I'd definantly consult the manufacturer on which end of the box size to build.

Not to hijack the thread or anything. But how do you apply fiberfill. Do you just throw in a wad? Do you shred it and throw it in? Do you spray some adhesive and glue a wad to the back of the cabinet? Do you spray glue and stick the fiberfill and pull at it to fluff it out?

Stupid questions I know but no one ever realy says how to put fiberfill in a box, so the assumption is just open the bag and toss in the appropriate amount.

^^^yup same question ive never used fiberfill before in a box, im assuming maybe glue it in to prevent it from coming in contact with the magnet and the workings of the sub.

It's not such a huge deal how you put it in, generally just put it in and fluff it around, it might be a good idea to try separate it from themagnet/inner workings of the sub. Your fiberglass box'll probably have dowels aroudn insize, so you could probably just use that to hold the polyfill.
