What is the maximum depth for a spacer on the front door of a 2004 Civic Coupe EX? I'm putting JL 6.5's in the hole if that matters. I'll be making the spacers from MDF and putting a couple of coats of paint on them to protect them from water. I'm guessing I can go up to 1". Anyone out there that can tell me for sure?
Also I have the same question for my JL rear 6x9's. Again I'm guessing I have an 1" or so.
Please let me know what you have found from your experiences. I'm doing my install with my bro in 2 weeks and want to try and have everything ready.
Thanks

oh yeah, I forgot to mention. I'm using baffles also. They are made of squishy foam and are .25" thick. I think they could squish down to almost nothing maybe like 1/16" or something...

I do have a coupe. I meant front and rear speakers (6.5's in the front and 6x9's in the back). you're saying up to a 1" spacer will work fine correct? I won't have any clearance isssues or anything?

1 inch is fine in both places. Where are you buying 1" MDF? I bet you're paying through the nose for it. Just get 3/4, its a standard size and cheaper and will get you plenty of mount depth for the JL's. As for water proofing. I've never had a water issue with mine and they've been there for going on 4 years. If it's really a concern, I'd buy some birch, or plywood, or something more solid, and put some thompson's on them.

I was going to have my dad make the spacers for me at his woodworking shop. FREEBIE : ) maybe I'll have him make 3/4 and 1" and just see what works best. Maybe I should use birch plywood also just in case...
Yeah dude. I told you the max you could fit with a 1" spacer. I didn't say use a 1" for all speakers. You should check the mount depth specs for whatever you have and act accordingly.
a 1" spacer is the largest you could use without hitting the plastic trim.

you mean the overall depth of the speaker when you "mount depth specs"? I thought you just made spacer to make sure the speaker wasn't getting in the way of the window opening and to make sure the magnets on the 6x9's weren't hitting the trunk torsion bars.
