I just finnished an install on an Audi A4. 51/4 MB Quart Premiums, JL 6.5 Rear, Old punch 4 channel. Goddamnit does the A4 suck for door speakers. Audi sticks a thin, shitty 4" on the back of the actual trim panel. So, there is absolutely nothing on the door itself to bolt to. Had to make special brackets, baffles, etc. etc. Took hours to finish. Sounds incredible though, but don't ever bitch about having to cut MDF spacers for the Civic again . . . LOL.

I didn't cut any mdf nor did I buy any type of spacer when I installed my 6.5's in the front doors. I simply just took out the stock ones. I used some twist ties, and tied them suckers down. My speakers don't rattle or distort, and plus you can't see them so I don't really care how gay it looks. It doesn't affect my performance of the 6.5's, so its all good.

I ended up cutting the metal to fit my MB Quarts in my doors. I'm using the grill mounting ring that came with the speakers (backwards) as a spacer, but I need to make some real spacers from MDF. Just haven't had the time. Speakers still sound great though.

Oh boo hoo... Its not like I'm going for competition sound here. It sounds decent to me and I'm satisified, and that's all that matters. It doesn't rattle, and SQ sounds good to me, and I've had no complaints about SQ in my car.

Maybe an audiophile like yourself may find the SQ to be crap, but that's you. I'm just a regular guy looking for decent sound. I know you are the man when it comes to audio on this board, but don't take my comments in an offensive way please.

Peace, Phu.

About the zip ties, you don't know what you're missing, I'm sure you're missing a ton of bass. You might as well put em in securely, you paid for the speakers, might as well have them sound as good as you can.

But, again, if you're happy, that's all that matters.

I wouldn't feel right using either twist or zip ties on speakers - but whatever works.....

The Audi install must have been LOTS of fun. How hard were the door panels to get off?

I just realized you guys were talking about me because it's actually J187. Hard to read since I fuzzed it all up, oh well. Anyway, to answer the question, no we are not a sound system place where I work, although I do installs on the side.

How do you figure I am a self-proclaimed expert???
