Question 600w ported or 1200w sealed?

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out what enclosure to build for my IDMAX's, I could do the 600w/sub w/ a ported box (or sealed) but do you think i'd get more power/sound better with a sealed box and possibly going 1200w/sub? I know when they are sealed they can take more power, I'd never give them 1200w each in a ported box. just wondering your thoughts on this

The 1000W rating on IDMAXes is a thermal max only. They will hit great with less than that.

What are you looking for in a sub, just loudness? What type of music are you looking to play through it? IT can't hurt to get/use a more powerful amplifier, as long as you take care with the gains and such. it's easier to upgrade later anyway.

i'm just wondering about enclosure. I listen to everything, country, rap, classic rock. etc. I would like to blast it when I want to and then have it not at overwhelming at other times. I have the remote gain **** for that I think, just didn't konw about the enclosure to begin w/ with the wattage and such

if i were you id go with sealed box. if i remember right a sealed box will give you a quick hard hit like youd hear in a rock song and a ported box will allow for better elongated low "boom's" like a rap song with the constant boooooooooom through half the song. the different effects arent that exaggerated but i think its definately noticeable. and a sealed enclosure would be best if you ask me

Are you worried wheter this sub/amp combo will be able to give you the output you are looking for?

If you are concerned at all with this system meeting your "requirements" for SPL, I would suggest ported. Sealed is easier and always a good option, though.

i just want it to sound good and pound when I need it to, but not sound sloppy when i want punch. I was just wondering if the 1200W sealed would sound the same as 600w ported SPL-wise
