Too much theft in the Toronto area. Even if I'm only running in for like 10 minutes, I'll detach the face. The only time I leave it in is when I park my car in my garage.
I usually only detatch it when verturing into the ghetto. And I always take it with me, but they'll still get it if that want it bad enough.
I had an old Pioneer a few years ago and my friend had the model right under mine and we had an idea to swap the faceplates to see if they still functioned. They did! Talk about security!

generally i try and take mine out... on my old 93 civic i had one of those motorized faces that turn around to an all black side when your turn your car off, and when my car got broken into at a mall, they never touched it. stole everything else, speakers, etc, but didn't touch that. given it was a new concept back then, thieves probably look for those now though.

I've recently started taking mine out again and carrying it with me, I suppose the only reason that I didn't before was that I had no case. I used to always just take it out and throw it in my center console, but nowadays I take it out everywhere and carry it with me. Only reason that I leave it in sometimes is because my faceplate is hard to detach becuase of the flush mount and the location of the button on the face.

glove, then side pockets, then under seats, then if they can get into the trunk, there too.
ps always lock your trunk when leaving your car for an extended period of time, ie a club.

i got my car broken into not too long ago, and my alarm didn't even go off...they shattered my window and popped the trunk and took all my **** like 200 cds, backpack, cologne, etc., but the dumbasses didn't take my cd player
. what kind of thiefs don't take an expensive cd player????
so now i take it off nightly, and sleep with one eye open so if anyone tries **** they better watch out
...the ironic thing is that i live in a gated community and they broke down the gate just to break into my car

I used to before I started serious modding. Now, if someone broke in to the car, they would take a lot more shyt first...
I just keep it in the garage, locked, or right in sight at work. The tinted windows helps and the lack of many exterior mods helped, but I've seen a few suspicious characters around it especially at the mall. Which has lead me to drive only my Acclaim if I'm going anywhere but work.

^^Tinted windows do help a little bit from the standpoint that they can't see what is in your car as easily, but it sucks when they go to break it because you can't hear the glass shatter really. The glass will be held together by the tint so it can easily be folded over, and it won't make half as much noise.

it helps when a cop does see the windows and pulls me over (I usually leave them down), I just hide the gauges I have and I give the car noob impression and tell him they came from factory like that...when he reaches in and tries to peel off the film and realizes it isn't there I laugh on the inside
They have always let me go...so far.I've never broken one to see how it sounds...maybe I should try

i wonder how he knows..... hmm....
I leave it on when I park the car in the driveway, take it out and hide it in the car if it's unattended for a while, and take it out and carry it with me if I'm in a bad neighborhood.

I wish I had a picture of the external controls on my buddies SPL car. He disassembled and emptied an Exide spiral cell battery and custom mounted a head unit inside. The lid is on hinges so when it's closed it looks like an actual battery. That's a good idea for a theft deterrent
