I installed 4" speakers in both my doors to go along with the 5 1/4"'s and i had alot of trouble getting the speaker wire through the grommet where the factory wires go through. Does anyone have a DIY how to run wires through the grommet??
It's pretty simple. Here's a quick one. First take off the door panel and the kick panel of course, then remove the door boot out of the car and the door (it'll just be hanging between the door jam), I used a razor to cut a small slit on both sides of the boot.. make sure you do it on the sides that go into the door and into the car and not the middle. I used a two foot zip tie, but a hangar or anything long and skinny that you can 'snake' through it will work, I fed it through the boot from inside the door until the other side is inside the car. You should see it come out inside the car after you feed it through the boot. Electrical tape your wires and pull the snake out.. voila. Reposition the boot back into the car and into the door and your wires are now ran. Hope this helps.. rep me ha

where did you put the 4" driver?

You don't have to cut the boot. All you have to do is disconnect the connectors where the window and lock wires connect under the dash. Then, the rubber boot should pull completely free and you can just put the wire with no trouble at all.

^ More work? oh man.. ha yeah you could do that too.. the way I said was just the lazy man's way of doing it.. I've gotten overly lazy after years of installing, what can I say?
i just tapped into the stock wires.. BUT im still runing stock speakers.. sigh
I'd also recommend spraying some type of lubricant on the wire. It makes your pushing of the wire through mucccch easier. Use a silicone based lubricant. (WD-40 works).
I put the 4" midrange speakers on the far end of the door close to the back of the seat. It is a perfect location because when the door molding is off there is just a space with this hard foam stuff. So i took off the foam, punched out the hole and drilled the speaker into the molding (it holds tighter than you would think, plus the speakers are pretty light). The speakers sound great too cuz they are closer to your ears. Surround sound pretty much. I cant take a picture right now, maybe next week. But right now I just have the wires running alongside the grommet (i squeezed them around it and into the car). I put a bunch of electrical tape over the exposed part so water wont get to the wires. It would look better though if I could get the wires inside the grommet.
Yeah, like pop was saying, we use wd-40 or ky jelly (ha I knew that stuff had a different use other than.. well, n/m)
