polyfill
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jrTo0Ta...41&search=poly

anyone here used polyfill before? pros, cons? looks like cotton you can find in blankets or pillows
good investment for ported enclosures or is it pointless since theres a port which affects its purpose?

I believe its supposed to be polyester filling, not cotton.
You can go to a $.99 store and buy cheap polyester filled pillows and it will do the same thing.
Its supposed to make fake your subs into thinking its in a larger box than it actually is.
Not sure how it will affect a ported enclosure.
I'm guessing a ported box is also tuned so poly-fill will throw it off.

I always reccomend calling the tech support of the company of the sub you bought. I have ran into some companys say yes and some say no. Some say it helps smooth the sound of your sub, and some say it make it worse but that all comes from the manufactoror techs not me.

everyone has their own opinions, but i've been installing for about 5 years now, and i've had systems ranging from some Rockford Fosgate 6.5" subs in a sealed box to 4 S15L7s in a 33 cubic foot box...i use polyfil in my sealed boxes, but i've never really noticed a difference with the ported boxes (sounds the same with or without, if you ask me)...
Polyfill is used to sort-of trick a box into thinking it's a little larger. It can smooth the freq response slightly (By no means drastic) and offer a slight bit more in the lower frequency extension. It can make a small improvement, I've noticed some in undersized boxes. I have never noticed a difference in either boxes built the right size, or when less than 100% fill is used. (100% fill = 1lb of polyfill for every cubic foot of enclosure volume.)
A good example of polyfill working is when my friend pulled his Boston Accoustic 10" sub out of an enclosure and wanted to replace it with, if I remember correctly, an Eclipse sub. The eclipse wanted 1cu. The box was .75cu for the Boston. We stuffed it, it sounded pretty good.

i stuffed the crap out of my box, and believe everyone when they say it doesnt make a big difference. I mustve stuffed two bags of polyfill in my box before it cleaned up the sound.
