help with voltmeter install needed.

I just received my voltmeter and I'm putting it near the gauge cluster. Where can I find a dim wire (a wire that has 12V on it when the lights are on?) I don't want to pull the cluster. Is there one in the ignition harness or do I have to look elswhere?

Just pull the cluster. That's the easiest way, although with your hybrid I don't know if it's the same one. Or if you're lazy, tap the ignition power source like cig lighter plug and it will come on when the key is in.

i think it would be very easy to do if you checked the steering column because of course the wire for the headlight switch will be in there, but then again it will be pre-relay so it might not be a good source. Get up in there with a DMM/test light and find out is the funnest way!

How about running above the pedals under the plastic panels to behind the radio, and tapping into the one for your HU. That would be easy....

Red wire/black stripe is the illuminatin wire

red wire is the dimmer wire. On the bulb, hook up one end to the red/blk the other to the red. then the light will go on and dimm just like the dash

mine are like this, along with red condoms, they dim like the rest of the lights and look pretty close to the color

Thanks I realy appreciate the help on this. A few more questions. The illumination wire is +12V when the lights are on correct? Also I plan on using a t-tap on the wiring harness of the radio and I'm wondering what gauge the wires generaly are for aftermarket wiring harnesses and if using a t-tap is okay.

My guage doesn't realy dim like the regular gauges it just basicly just dims when it gets 12V (its ment to hook up to the driving light/parking light wire) There is no gradation of dimming.

theres also one of those wires going into your hazard switch in the dash if your gauge is closer to that part of the dash.

who me? If so then its just a piece of abs cut to fit the opening. I recessed an alpine unit that auto retracts. and vecroed the piece to it so when the radio opens and closes it takes the piece with it.

Well, the guage is in. I hope I can get a digital camera for christmas so you can see how it looks guys. I'm sure someone will be wanting to by the cluster pod housing and will want to see how they look installed. I know I did. I could only find 1 picture of gauges mounted in one of these pods.

Thanks for all the help with color codes and stuff of the wires.
