Headunit install in older cars?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do a headunit install for scratch. My friend has an old pontiac lik 68 or seomthin. Anyway how would we go about installin a head unit if there are no original wires to begin with?

grenloch101056 is an unknown quantity at this point
first find a constant 12 volt line, a line that shows 12 volts only when the ignition is switched on, and a ground wire. Then you need to take care of the speaker cables. Either run new wire or search around behind the dash for the original ones. you should have 11 cables once your done.

Some older cars have funky grounds, like through the antenna or something. You may need to run a new ground to the chassis. If he's not concerned about sound, some companys make shaft radios that go right into place in shaft mounts.

so any suggestions as where i would find a good turn on lead? Otherwise i think we could run it straight to the battery with a fuse of course but also a cut off switch just in case the battery is drained...any other ideas and info would be helpful.. thanks!

When I installed cd players in my first car, 69 Dodge Dart, I ran the power wire to the dome light fuse and it never gave me any problems. Good luck man and don't destroy the car's dash just because you guys want to put a new deck in it. I did and I regret it...even though I don't own the car any more.
