port calculator

This port calculator doesnt take into consideration the volume of internal box space it takes up does it. I mean if you have a box of say 2 cubic feet and it says you need a port 12" long that has a opening of 12 square inches, you'd actually have to have a 3 cubic foot box right? becuase the port would take up a cube itself right? Or you could have a box of a certain size then calculate the port but then you'd have to make it an external port as not to take up box space correct?

Lud, you know for sure?

1 cubic foot = 1728 cubic inches...

but yes, the port itself displaces air, as does the wood used by the port, but 12 sq inches by 12 inches long would only be 144 cubic inches, less than .1 cubic feet. cubic feet = (l x w x h) / 1728.

so yes, you need to add it on manually, but it isnt hard. just do it on paper.

lol you missed one yes 12 sq inches x 12 inches long = 144 but the first figure is SQ inches so you have to multiply that by 12 again. because 12 sq inches IS 12 x 12. I think you just accidentally read to fast.

But your answer is that port area is not accounted for?

no sir, 144 sq inches is 12 by 12...
12 sq inches is 3 x 4, or 6 x 2, or 8 x 1.5, ad infinitum

alex053 will become famous soon enough
you forgot the that you have to take the outside dimensions of the port....dont forget to add the thickness of the wood we all know it will make a huge difference.
