Still have altenator whining
Still have altenator whining
now I have searched this board for this common problem with our cars, when an amplifier is hooked up to the front speakers there is a whining noise that is in tuen with the rpm / altenator
MY power lines are seperate from my RCA's
I have a good ground, and have tried regrounding it
I have heared people suggest some sort of noise suppressor, where can I get one and what kind do I need?
Thank you in advance for your help

You can get a noise filter but I'd suggest yout try to solve the problem the right way rather than using a filter to simply divert the problem. Thats like not showering and using a lot of cologne
You say you ran your RCA's away from the power but there are other things you should ask:
Are my RCAs near the ground at all?
Is the ground good? Does it touch bare metal and not a painted surface?
Is the gound well connected?
Do my RCAs just suck?
Have I tried re-routing my RCAs?
Is there a break in the shielding on the RCAs?
Is my ground cable really long?
Is my ground too small, like a 22Awg wire on a JL1000/1?
Also, if you've got another set of RCAs or access to some, you can run them outside the car to narrow it down and isolate the problem. Good luck.

Yeah if you have the ability to give it more signal via a line driver or signal level device then do that and get your gains to 0.
Also, where is your amp mounted? Depending on if the RCA's are near factory wires or not you could have whine. I recall one case where one guy had whine that he just couldnt fix and it turned out to be the RCA's behind his deck were too close to the factory wiring. He diverted the wire by taping it to the bottom of his deck and the problem was solved. It could be just that simple but it is something to think about.
Try to isolate the problem by seeing when it occurs. For example, does it go away when the car is turned off, when the hvac is on or off, when the brakes or headlights are on, etc etc. If you can isolate the problem like that it might be a lot easier to fix.
Just a few points, if you still have trouble, keep us posted, it can be figured out.

heres the little skank
oh and the only time you hear hte whine is faintly in the background of the music but becomes louder as you go over 3000 rpm. its the worst if you put it on pause. but as soon as the deck is off the sound fades to a halt

Yea someone figure this out (coming from the one whos brother owns a stereo shop). Mines not that bad through id rather have the noise than tale apart my car and rip apart my expensive wiring. Also Anyone looking for a sick firberglass box pm me I started a box but i need room for my battery, nitrous tank, and methanol tank for turbo in the future in the trunk so i might sell the fiberglass box just need to finish sanding it and its ready for paint.
I had the whine in my 01, and could never fix it, trying everything listed above. A guy at the local shop told me to run the ground from the deck to the point that the amp is grounded via a 18 gauge wire. I did that and the whine has never been back.

ok i know this is kinda old post but i have this whining and the only way i got rid of the most part of it is setting my gains on my amp down. but its still there slightly but not as liud as before.
but my main question is that if i leave it like this(with some alternator whining) would it hurt the alternator?

I tried forever to get rid of my whine, and I finally got rid of it by jiggling and moving the wires behind my HU. In fact, i still think that my RCAs that go to my subs still get whine, because if i switch them on to my components I will jet whine. For some reason i have to place my RCAs in just the right spot behind my radio to get rid of the whine
It sounds like it is a ground loop, basically just a different ground potential at each end of the RCA's. If the RCA's have a 22 ga wire run with them, make sure it is ground to each components chassis. Worst case scenario, and it's really not a bad option, would be to use a HIGH QUALITY ground suppressor. PAC Parts makes one, the SNI-1, pretty cheap, good quality, guarantee no noise. We use them all the time on older German cars that have extreme amounts of AC ripple through factory wiring.

But really, what components, etc I'll get you straightened out...and the system install of mine....pics soon!
I don't know much about Clarion amps - but having replaced a PowerAcoustik that blew a channel with an Alpine took care of it for me.
That said - pay attention to the other suggestions - what gauge wiring are you using for power and ground? How long is the grounding cable running from your amp to the car? Where are you grounding it? What types of RCA's are you using? These all play factors....
