i'd say youd be running way too much off the cig lighter circuit. youd be safer running in a 10 gauge or 8 gauge wire from the battery, fusing it, and being safe like that

The FM mod would be fine to splice in there (I'd probably tap into the wires on the back to the deck cause it'd keep the stuff closer together, but that's not really the point). For the power inverter though, the wiring there isn't really where you'd want to tap in. Do as ludlam said and run a wire direct from the battery.
i wnat to but i cant find a hole in the firewall. do you know where it is? and how do i fuse the wires? thanx for your help and input! also wat is the guage of a wire that comes stock on the power inverter..like the cig lighter wires? wat gauge are those coming off the inverter..

go straight back from the battery and a little to the right and you will find a premade hole in the firewall. look for where all the stock wires are going and use that hole. buy a non black 8 gauge wire (so you can see it ), fuse it near the battery, tie the end onto a coat hanger and jam it through. remove the glovebox and you will see the wire(why i said not black), pull it through. voila!

In my 01 Coupe, the hole in the firewall can also be located from inside the car, possibly more easily than from looking under the hood. It's under the carpet in the passenger side floorboard on the firswall (under the glovebox). As for the power inverter wire size, on the small one I had it was 10 gauge.

Yeah it doesn't need to be a big wire, but it DEFINITELY has to come directly from the battery. Splicing off the cig lighter for an inverter will burn your car down. Better safe than sorry

i just shove wire thru the top hole, done it without a coat hanger (but my arms aren't popeye sized
) whatever's easiest is the route i always go
please don't think you need to match gauge though. bigger (smaller number) is better, and the cost difference is pennies per foot

If somebody has that neat little chart that shows what wire size you should use for a certain run that will carry a certain amount of current can you post it?
I don't have the location of the chart but trust me, it's awesome

http://www.redrival.com/ixlnxtc24/wiresize.htm this works
this is kinda subjective territory though, depends on how you classify max current. you will start losing noticible power in the line before you even come close to the max a wire is technically capable of carrying. all these are just guides, not a hard and fast rule. you could put 40+ amps through 12 gauge if you don't care about line losses or just really had no money (god no one do it though)
