Self-Install or Shop Install?
I just received a new head unit for my car from my friend.
An: Aiwa CDC-Z127YUC
It's not the best but it'll do better than the stock system, I hope.
Now, what I'd like to know is, should I install it myself? I think I'll need a new harness because the power wire is very short (less than 1 inch) and some of the wires are in very bad condition. Are these hard to find?
Also, what tools will I need to self-install it?
OR
Would it just save me time and money to go to an audio shop and have them install it? Your input is greatly appreciated.

i think u should do it urself.. u will get more experience out of this more fun.. and u will feel much better about it when its done and done by ur self.. u will save money thats for sure.. and shouldnt be big of a problem so i say do it ur self over the weekend shouldnt take more than 1-2 hours enjoy
which harness is in bad shape - the one supplied the AIWA deck or the harness that interconnects it to your car? If it's the AIWA harness - good luck. You'd probably have to contact them to get a replacement, which might not be easy or cheap....

Hell, just grab a soldering iron and lengthen the wires.......it's simple to do a DIY stereo install, if you pay shop prices for something like that, you're nuts. And if you really need help with it, just post your problem on here, somebody'll help ya out pretty quick.
Thanks a lot guys. The harness which is in bad shape is the one that came with the Aiwa receiver. I saw them on eBay for like... $2-6. I'll probably install it myself.
The only thing that I'm concerned about is: the touching of certain wires which might cause sparks?
I'm pretty sure on how to wire the speakers but the other four:
Red -- To Power (ACC)
Yellow -- To Battery Direct (Back Up) Fuse 15A
Black -- To GND (Negative Ground)
Blue -- Relay Control; To Power Antenna/To Remote Control; Fuse 0.5A
What do these mean? And will the wires in my car match the colors of these wires? That would help a lot. I appreciate it guys.

Is the stock player better than the Aiwa?

Here are pictures of the receiver and the harness. You can see the red one is extremely short.

Get a replacement AIWA harness on ebay or through an AIWA dealer. Then you need to get a Metra harness for your car. The wires are all color coded, so all you have to do is match them up. You will also need a dash kit, get this from crutchfield.com or a similar site, or a store. Tools required will be screwdrivers and a ratchet, wire crimpers, and but-connectors.
Honestly, I would leave your factory radio in too...AIWA is pretty low-end.

If you have to put that deck in just DIY. We have more than enough info on the site here to help you out.
If you want to find my thread on how to remove the deck, do a search for <EDIT> and it will find my good DIY pic
