factory cd player or another unit?
factory cd player or another unit?
I have a civic 2k1 coupe with the stock tape player and i want to be able to play cds. is the amount of work needed to install a factory cd player, say from www.handa-accessories.com, more or less than that needed to install a 3rd party unit like an Alpine or clarion from crutchfield?
If you decide to get a stock Cd player, don't get a retail one, just hit one off our forums here, there are always some available, fo a lot less i would imagine as well. LIke he said above, jsut be sure to get the security code.

Come on guys. Get a wire harness and the aftermarket deck plugs right in. It's the same amount of work to install it. The stock deck is horrible both for rms power and tuning. You'll be much happier with a different deck. You could even spend a couple hundred and get one that plays mp3 cds. But if you really want stock, I've seen em on here going for $30-50.

yea actually they make "smart harnesses that factory harness plugs into and then plugss into another harness that plugs into the cd player. about the same time it takes to plug in a factory deck
The work involved in getting to the point where you can replace the HU is way more trouble than any work involved in plugging the HU in... I really wouldn't consider an aftermarket HU much harder to install than a factory one. Buy a harness and some of those screw cap connectors, and once you get the panel off (which you have to do no matter what), it is pretty damn easy to install an aftermarket deck.

Meh... save some money and get an aftermarket one. If you plan on upgrading your audio system, you'll eventually buy an aftermarket HU anyway, so save the hassle and money you'd spend on getting a stock hu now. You'll be plesantly suprised at what you can get an aftermarket hu. There's a DIY on here for installing a HU, it's step by step, follow it, and you'll have no troubles. Also, I'd recommendat least getting crimp on connectors if you do decide to get an aftermarket HU. The screw on connectors aren't worth the money, or the time you might save (which may be 10 seconds).
