Faceplate Relocation

My question is on relocating the headunit, and no its not about moving it by the cigarette lighter like everyone else asks. I'm placing my radio faceplate on the headliner behind the map lights, and keeping the radio itselft in the dash kinda where it would normally go back there. I've seen a picture of somebody do this and i believe ludlam has done it as well. I've already extended wires between the faceplate and radio.
The problem I'm having though is that the length of wire between the two seems to be too much and is creating too much resistance for it to work. When I shortened the length to say about a foot it works fine, but when I extend it to the length I need it just flickers. I've used ethernet cable as I believe other people have done for this. So my question is if you've done this, what type of wire did you use and how long was your distance, and if you had to use anything else to get it to work. Thanks.

Ethernet cable should theoretically work, are you sure there is not a break in the cable that you are using?

Unless only extremely small amounts of voltage and current are running thru the wires, ethernet should be good enough.

Maybe try somethng a little bigger, like say 20 or 22 awg wire?

thanks for the help, what guage is ethernet wire anyway? Theres a guy here installing an alarm in my house and he just went to lunch so i checked out if he had any good wire down there. Hes got one thats ethernet style with 12 wires in it and its labeled 22 awg. Is ethernet 24awg? I just wanna make sure this wire will actually be a lower gauge.
