Wiring Experts.....

I already have one amp in my cabin for which I use for my door speakers... I am now getting ready to hook up my amp in the trunk for my subs and I wanted to know if I could jump of the power and remote wire from my first amp to the one in the trunk so I don't have to run a new power wire from the batt. and a mew remote wire from the headunit.

u can, but that isn't the correct way to do it. For the power, u will need a distribution block. For the remote, u can just do that.

Yeah, DEFINITELY use a proper distro block to split the power between your 2 amps. They are cheap enough to justify buying one to make sure your system is done properly.

For your remote. just cut it somewere and splice 2 wires from the one, or run it from the first amp to the second.

Well if that is as far as your current power wire from your battery goes, you can try mounting the distro under there, but PERSONALLY, I would put the distro in the trunk, but it is up to you

Out of curiosity, why do you recommend a distro block, and why would you put it in the trunk?

becuase when working with large power wires, it is the only way to split it off without twisting the wires together and covering it in electrical tape, which would look terrible and poses some obvious risks.

My reasoning for mounting it in the trunk is mostly aesthetic. I would mount it visually and show the wires before they went down thru my false floor and on their merry way. It would also allow me to mount it to a wood surface instead of drilling throuhg the metal of the car, but I am assuming (hoping) that civic2uner has it somehow screwed down under his seat, and if it was wood that it was mounted on, then I would most certainly recommend mounting the distro under the seat if it was easier, but personally (and only a personal preference), I would still mount it in my trunk.

why wouldn't you? The correct way is to have the main power wire, 2awg or 4 run to the distribution block in the trunk. then 4 or 8awg to the amps, depending on power. not a good idea to mount the amps under a seat. at least if there is a fire you have a quicker chance getting out. and for the battery you will need a bigger fuse with the extra amp.

I have no idea. I saw lots of statements here, and I wanted to know the reasoning behind them. I learn by knowing why, not just by knowing how.

See, this isn't particularly helpful (to me, and presumably to most people). Why is it the correct way? What makes it better than other ways? Mega's reply makes sense.

This makes sense. Plus, there is less air under the seat, which means more heat.

A distro block is the correct way becuase it is the only way to split power when you are working with large wires. With a 16awg power wire, you might be able to fit 2 wires in one end of a butt connector, or even just twist em all togther and electrical tape it. But you obviously can't put 4 awg wire in a butt connector, and taping it definitely isn't safe with that kind of wire.

Your distribution block usually has one or two inputs, depending on what kind you get, and has 2 or 3 outputs, again depending on what one you get. Run from the battery to the input on the distro block in the trunk, usually 4 gauge is good, a thinner wire can burn up, it depends on how much power your running. then use the outputs on the distro block and run 8 gauge to the amps, one output for each. Then you need a main fuse or circuit breaker at the battery for the main wire and i wouldn't go more than 12inches away to be safe, 6 inches would be even better. hope this helps a little better brash.

sounds like it may be easier and safer to just run a new power wire?
