No illumination
No illumination
Today I installed my Sony CDX-M8805 headunit and got all the wires connected. Then I plugged the harness into the back of the headunit. The front of the headunit flips down, but I don't have any lighting to see what the unit is doing. I was wondering if anyone has installed a Sont HU and if they have, if they remeber what wire (on the civic) did they connected to the orange (illumination light on harness) wire to?
if you need more info jsut ask for it..I really want this to be hooked up this weekend.

More info. Are the deck lights just dim, or not on at all? Is your dimmer **** on the gauge cluster turned up? I'm actually having a problem making my illumination work. It no longer dims when the parking lights are turned on. And if you have a harness, doesn't it just plug into the factory one?
no the harnesses do not fit into each other..im actually get a friend of a friend to come take a look at it, he is the roadshop manager at circuit city..so ill just have to see how that goes

Make sure the proper dimmer/illumination wire is hooked up in the back, make sure the settings for the illum/dimmer are set right on the deck (mine has different settings), and turn the dimmer on the dash all the way to the right
well somehow during the install..I blew not one but 2 and now i got them fixed and everything works AMAZINGLY..and today's project is to install my 6.5 infinity references into the door..any tips you think would help me, PLEASE post!..thanks

If you want some help/advice with your 6.5 install, all I can say is it's really easy, there are only 5 screws to remove to get the door panel off, all of them easy to find. 2 in the handle, 1 in the hand cup whatever thing, and 2 underneath that once you remove it. From there, just pull.
You WILL need adapters to get the speakers to fit though, so I'd advise you to buy them before you get started. Other than that, they are very very easy to install.

pic intensive. The search option is our friend, and so it the DIY link at the top of the page. Also, you don't have to have adapters for those speakers to fit, or to hook them up. They help, but aren't necessary. To wire them in, you can do one of several things, after cutting the stock plug off. You can splice by soldering, crimping, etc. You may need some spacers, but I doubt it, being as that's a relatively shallow set. Only thing to make sure of is you remove the factory plastic spacer. Of course I'm sure that's shown in the diy.
well i successfully got the door panels off no problem thanks to the search diy
and the only question i have now is, should i just put spacers inbetween the speaker and door, or trim out or sand down around the stock speaker hole and custom fit the speaker?

remove the plastic spacer/trim ring from teh stock location. It pops out. Once that is done, use the gasket thing that should come with the speaker (forgot the technical name for it) and adhere it to the back. Wire it up, put the speakers in, and screw it down using supplied screws and a drill. If they aren't too deep (magnet shouldn't touch the door skin) then they will fit fine without a spacer. if the magnet touches the door skin, and you still have a gap between the speaker's mounting surround and the original door panel, you'll need a spacer. For that, you can fabricate one yourself but cutting something (such as a piece of MDF, high density plastic, whatever so long as it's rigid and will allow you to screw into it) and putting it in there as a spacer. Not necessary to go out ans waste money on buying a premade spacer when you can make one yourself.
alright well on my last post, i worded it wrong...the hole that the speaker should fit in is not large enough, therefore im wondering if i should trim the metal on the door panel to fit the speaker flush with the door?..im thinking that is the ONLY way to go..it is fine with the outside of the door, the magnet does not touch by about and inch and a half..ill probably trim that up sometime tomorrow
..
sorry for the confusion, but thanks for the help
