Fusing the whole car...
Now that I have the battery in the trunk, there's an 18' line running to the front thats live power. Now, since I don't want to set the car on fire, I'm thinking it would be pretty damn wise to put a fuse right next to the battery, just incase the line gets cut or stripped... the only question... how big?
I know the alternator is kinda dinky (its only 70A max or something right?) but I'm thinking more of what its going to take to run the starter, anyone know?
Anyways, I'm thinking 80 or 100A fuse, but don't know if thats right or not. The other thing, can someone link me to an online stereo store or something where I can get one of the cylindrical fuses and the holder for it and not have it cost me an arm and a leg? I don't know stereo stuff too well, but it was about $36 for the fuse and the holder at Suckit City, and that just sounds way too high.

you can go with one of these, just make sure the one you get is rated for the amount of power you want it to handle...

you can experiment, but If you arent running any super high draw to it, like a stereo, then an 80 amp fuse should do just fine. check under the hood, 80 amp i believe is the largest fuse in there!

Yes, I believe under the hood there is an 80 amp fuse labelled battery.
So try an 80 and it see what happens. If your car catches fire, then next time try a 60 amp :d

$36?! The fuse holders are $8, and the fuses are $5 for 3 at my shop.... (this is for 4 guage wire) As far as amperage, 80 would be good. I might also suggest getting some sort of sheathing for the wire, like they use for wires in home electrical wiring.

Well, I got myself a holder and 4 80 A fuses for $18. That sounds more like it to me. Still kinda high, but 1/2 the price is a big improvement.
