new install ideas, advice please...
i'm gonna re-arrange my system a little, and would like some advice on how to do it.
i already moved my speakers back into the factory locations from the q forms (forms sold to Derek-CEO). the HU is staying in the factory location.
next, i have an epic 160 from audiocontrol (it looks like one of those in dash EQ's). i'm gonna put it in the dash, put instead of removing the pocket, i'm gonna put it IN the pocket, so that when you open the pocket door, its right there. i'm gonna have to hack up that pocket, but i dont care about that.
next, gonna put my audiocontrol DQT IN the back seat. thats correct, IN the back seat. gonna recess it into the back of the back seat, and put a plexi window on it, so when you fold downt the seat, you can see it. this is gonna be a toughy, i'm not really sure on where to start with it, any ideas? looking for a cheap, effective solution, nothing over the top.
finally, the amps. gonna mount them like regular joe and fonto did, on a piece of carpeted wood, facing the inside of the car, so that they are only seen when the seats are folded down. how is this wood attached? i'm leaving my sub box the way it is, so that i can remove it if i need the trunk space.
still waiting on eclipse to send me my 8053, and for audiocontrol to ship the wired controller for the DQT (which is going to be another thing i need mounted in the car).
i got a mess of sh*t, i need to clean it up.
solutions for an easy way to do this?

i would reccommend flushmounting it. its easier than putting plexi in there, and looks fantastic.
by cutting a 1/4 inch board the EXACT shape of your DQT, you cna glue that to your back seat, cut a big X in it, then folt it back. youll then mount a board behind the grid in teh seat and screw your EQ to that, then fit over the flushmount piece
the friction with the carpet (itll be a tight fit!) will hold it in place.
Note: this will work for the back seat more easily than the front seat, due to the carpet the back seat is made from:

furthermore, I would reccommend you flushmount the amplifiers as well, for 2 reasons. #1, itll look better, and #2, itll fit better with the backs of the seats:
first, you will cut a board out the EXACT shape of the trunk/cabin boundary. in this you will cut slightly slightly loosely the shape of your amplifiers. cut the hole so that its loose all round the amp when it sits in the board flush.
countersink four bolts where the amp mounting posts are, and bolt them in. they should be at least 2-3 inches long to mount the amp to.
do a test fit with the amps, using two more bolts ot get the amps to "float" in position.
remove the amps, then mount the board inside the car. I would do it using either backstrapping or some metal or wooden bracket, removing the trunk side panels to expose the stiffening bars that act as the boundary and prevent twisting of the rear deck. I would mount this baffle to this.
once that system was determined, I would matching vinyl the board, then mount the amps to it, mount it to the car, and presto! its done!
my buddy was too cheap to get matching carpet, so we used scraps of black carpet to do his mustang:

thanks whiterabbit, thats some good stuff.
i'm definately putting the DQT in the back of the back seat, so that its not in the view of would be thiefs and such. i think i like your idea better than mine because its easier, cheaper, and still looks hella clean and sweet
flush mounting the amps would be sweet, but i dont think i can do that since the width of the opening in our trunk pass through isnt wide enough to house both of my amps (my D5 1200.1 is 14.5" long, and the D7152 is about 18" long) then you gotta take into consideration the wires and rca's...
i might also have a problem doing that with the D7152 because it has some wierd cooling system (sucks air in through the sides and vents it back out the heatsink or something). but the D7 is a beautiful amp, i could just display that one nicely, and the 1200.1, i dunno, false floor?
i'll see what else you guys can come up with
but i'm gonna get started on the DQT soon, i like that idea.

the best installs dont show everything. there is just too much stuff in an audio system, so showing everything off is jsut too many focuses for hte eye, and makes the viewer restless.
the sexiest installs show one or two components, to realy show off workmanship, to force th eeye to follow the plan you set out for it to follow, to enjoy where and what it is, and not jsut a quick peek before the eye moves on to the next clusterfu ck arranged bs.
I say hide the 1200 and show off your sexy 18" stage amp.

i think i have an idea on what i will do now, gonna take some measurements, and draw out some plans first to make sure it will work the way i want it to.
i still have some doubts about flush mounting the D7, i need to find out how its cooling system works, or integrate some fans into the install to give it some air.
thanks for the suggestions WR, if you got anything else, let me know
btw, done anything special with your dash WR? you're always doing something, thats why i ask.

my car has a carpet theme going in it, literally every surface minus the door sills either is carpeted, or will be carpeted. alas, I have not gotten to the dash yet, so in saying that I *will* carpet the dash, i become like every other kiddie in here who is talking poop about stuff they *will* do but never seem to get around to.
hopefully im not just talking poop and I will actually pull through with it.
in looking at the dash, its very difficult for me to do anything special with it, as I can not figure out anything creative to do with it that falls within my abilities to do that will still look, what is in my opinion, "good".
now that ive seen the double din dash kits, im excited, as it will allow me to install that screen ive been looking at for awhile now and keep an external audio system independant of hte video.
talk to ludlamtheory about dash ideas, he is really starting nitty gritty about what he cna and cant do up in there, specifics of fabrication, moving stuff, etc. as for me, minus carpet, I will not be doing anything creative up there.
I had my CD changer in the map pocket of the door, I thought that was rather clever. in the long term, there were too many problems with wiring to make it a feasible functional long term location for the changer (just think of all the times I slam my door shut!) so I moved that to the passenger footwell.
I relocated my radio from the dash postition to the center console, and lost points at SQ competition due to "ergonimic concerns." the bastage. My radio is currently in the cig lighter area, where it is functioning very well. but the lack of cupholders is bugging the **** out of me, Im always drinking something in my car thats larger than a can of soda!
the double din kit will allow me to put my radio up high again, and since it is not a motorized screen, it is my hope that I can pull it out slightly and use it as a visor to protect vision of the radio during the day time. this will remain to be seen whether or not itll work. and if not, then ill just have to get creative again in radio location position.
alas, my creativity is really limited to trunks and rear areas, I cna work magic back there, but for my own abilities, the dash limits me jsut too much as it is right now to do anything really slick or neat.
