Try it out. if ur lights dim, get a cap. If your car drains ur battery and it's weak to start up, get a yellow top. it's $110 and well worth the money.

My battery died this year however, from being completely drained once; and the extreme cold didnt help either. The stock ones arent good with being totally discharged. I doubt he will have a problem since he wont be pulling all that much power.
Also, your ground loop issue was probably caused by something else...a battery shouldent cause that I dont think.
And last of all, you can get a battery from sears or AutoZone for have the cost of a yellowtop that has twice the charge.

Except the DIE HARD company at Sears doesn't make one for the civic except the "weather handler", which is basically like a stock battery for $60. No deep cycle, I woulda bought it.

You dont have a buy a group 51 battery, just get a different size.

Honestly, My voltage mantains at a much steadier rate ever since I upgraded my battery. It used to drop drop down to the tens and one time my car just shut off on a bass hit. Ever since I put in my yellow top it does not drop below 12 volts.
Well, my voltage has been more stable since I upgraded as well, the stock battery IS pretty crappy, but it should be fine as long as you've never totally drained it, which I did. Also, we are running more power than the original thread started is planning on running.
And I too have caused my car to shut off on bass hits....it's pretty cool, and for somereason it impresses my friends.

yeah that was my problem, the shut offs while driving. luckily i figured out that it was a slightly loose ground cable.
i drained my stock battery once, about 16 months ago. i've been running 800-1kW rms and haven't killed it yet. dimming like all hell though lol
