trunk release on an alarm

I had a trunk release installed with my alarm using a solenoid. I was just searching the site though and saw that some people had used an accord latch which I never thought of Anyways, the solenoid releases the trunk just fine, but when you go to close the trunk you have to do it very carefully or else it doesn't latch. The latch just won't catch if you do it wrong and it will stay open. Anybody know how to fix this? or should I just go pick up an accord latch and replace the solenoid and all with the one off the accord?

It depends. It's your car, save yourself the extra cash and stick with what you have. Just remember to be careful, otherwise if you don't feel like dealing with it, go with the Accord latch.

Ok... but do you know how to fix the problem? I know another person with a similar setup who has this problem so I know its not uncommon. I'm just looking for things I could tell the shop that I know other people have done and it works so they can fix it

hmmm.... no I don't think I lowered the latch. I know I did some stuff but I don't remember for sure if I did the latch. It worked fine before the trunk actuator was added.

They used a stiff join actuator (think I used the right name). But they said they think they can do some things to adjust it to make it work better so I'm gonna get them to look at it. Thanks though

I've tried this remote trunk release and I got the same problem too. The symptom is due to the fact that the trunk latch wouldn't return to its normal position and remained in the 'open state'. In addition to the friction casuded by the actuator, a greater force is required to close and lock the trunk. If you don't know what I talking about, please open the trunk and look at the actuator. Then, release the trunk with your remote. You can see that the actuator don't return to it's home position after the lock is released. This is why the trunk is difficult to close.

I have actually gotten this problem fixed since I posted last. I have a stiff arm actuator (I believe thats what its called) and it pushes out to release the latch. The guys who installed my alarm played with it and to fix it they just simply added a spring to the actuator to pull the arm back after it releases the latch. It works like a charm! Absolutely no problems anymore

Thumbs up

yea me too. I did the accord latch install and it was one of the easiest mods done so far. The hardest part (though not hard at all) is relocating the release cable. Good thing you got your setup to work though.
