People with systems: Does your car rattle?
People with systems: Does your car rattle?
I have a 2002 Civic LX, decent system with JBL 1200.1, 2 PPI 12's and my car rattles like a b*tch..... sounds horrible from outside and inside. And to top that off, still run my stock speakers and they are starting to distort.
I was curious because my civic is starting to annoy me and I don't have the $ to pay for dynamat or alternatives. I haven't heard trunks of other cars that rattle this bad.
Anyway, to those with a system has gives off annoying rattles what kind of civic do you have, and what do you have in your trunk? peace

mine rattles very little. course i have 2 layers of dynomat extreme in the trunk floor, and one layer all around the sides, and a layer on the trunk lid. plus expanding foam, and i did the DIY trunk hinge thing where you move the latch mechanism down a little to make the trunk close tighter. im gonna put another layer of dynomat extreme all over the entire trunk when i get my side projects done, such as glassing in the new amp enclosure in the spare well, and a few other things i am working on right now. i also glassed up the vent thing on the driver's side. if you havent fastened that vent shut, or moved the latch mechanism down, you should do that definantly. takes maybe a combined 30 minutes, and gets rid of a lot of rattle quickly. if you have never glassed before though, i might reccommend that you use a tape or poke rags in the vent hole. thats how i originally done mine. poked it full of rags, then used the aluminum HVAC tape to tape it shut. also, i have a 2001 Vic Ex, in the trunk is the JL 500/1 Mono, and a virtual technologies RIP hammer 10.
I have a 12" Eclipse with about 500 watts RMS. Not a whole lot, I know, but it still pounds pretty good. When I get the volume up high and have the sub volume all the way up it rattles very badly in the rear. It didn't used to do it but it sounds like something has loosened up a little in the back. I think its the rear deck doing it. I've also thought it might be the trunk springs. I've done the latch adjustment for the trunk as well and that seemed to help. I've also got a rag or two stuffed into the rear deck from the trunk and that took care of my rattles a while back but like I said, sounds like something has loosened up again around the 3rd brake light. Its just something you either get used to, or spend tons of time trying to eliminate. I just deal with it personally.
i have a 1000rms 12 inch diamond tdx sub, and when i run less than 500rms W, it rattles like mad even with fatmatting. HOWEVER, the trunk doesn't rattle as much as the license plate and the wires inside the trunk rattle. with my old 10inch diamond (500rms running at 300), the wire rattle was very quiet. i guess loud basses push more air into the trunk spaces
however, only super deep bass notes make the car rattle. when its a higher bass, and loud, it doesn't rattle. anybody know how to take apart a civic trunk? i need to tape the wires, or put some carpet or foam them

my bro had a system in his civic, and he built the false floor for his civic LX, which is for sale if anyone wants it in texas :-D , but yea he built it and it cut alot of rattle...
yeh my cars rattles pretty good, but the foam and the weather stripping between the back deck and window helped alot
im starting to find that my roof liner is rattling, right in the back where it touches the rear window.

mine rattles at medium volumes mostly, when its low, there isn't enough bass to rattle anything, but when its too high, i can't hear the rattles (i'm assuming its rattling).
one big rattle i got rid of was the rear seat belts. when they are unbuckled, the metal piece on the strap leans on the plastic panel in the rear (i have a coupe, i dont know how sedans are), anyways, i just buckled the rear seat belts, and most of my rattles were gone.

hey dups, whats up with the amp? did you fry it?
if you bought it from advantage, they should take care of you on that.

i must say i really love expanding foam as a rattle killer. just a little in the lid will kil many many rattles.
lots of weatherstripping behind the liscence plate will help with that rattle.
padding the rear deck from the bottom helps that rattle, as wel as a little to help noise on the rear windshild, if you have any rattle there.
there are two supports to help hold the quarter panels in place, they are behind the interior side panels in the back, a little expanding foam back there will prevent that metal on metal contact.
any panel thats flexing a whole lot can be taken care of by dynamat or alternatives very easily.
my favorite way to tagke care of door resonance is to grab four cans of spray rubber undercoating fomr walmart and do two per door, I cna aim it through the holes in the door to get a nice coat all over the outer skin.
any interior panel that rattles agsaint the frame I like to pad with a towel or cloth to prevent plastic/metal contact, unless I dont feel that I will ever pull the panel again, in which case Id foam it. rather permanent.....

I used and old long sleeve black t-shirt...ripped off the sleeves and used a ruler to stuff them between the rear deck and window...helped alot.

and for underneath, I used to just get towels, cotton, tshirt, anything, and remove the rear deck, place the towl there, then replace the rear deck. no more rattle between the plastic and deck frame
