interior neon wiring..
ok..im wiring my neons to a switch and to my battery but ive noticed that my wires arent gonan be long enough to reach my battery...but i dont know much bout wiring so..im gonan need some more wire to hook into the neon wires now to make them longer...can u guys tell me what i need to buy and where to get it at?
Walmart, Home Depot, Radio Shack, Pep Boys, pretty much anywhere. Since you're doing it for neons, 18-20awg wire will be fine. Just remember to twist, solder, heat shrink, and tape it. The solder will resist agains corrosion, the heat shrink and the tape will just help protect the connection.

sorry..this might be a stupid question but i know nothin bout wiring so...anyway..ur sayin i can use this 18-20awg wire for all the wires? liek the ones that go to the battery and the ones that i hook into my switch and so on? =/
I meant that you can use use an 18 awg wire (It's the size of the wire). The wires that go to your battery are usually 4awg or 8awg, depending on the size of your engine and other things.
Anyways here's what I would do.
Run an 8awg wire from your battery into your car. Make sure the wire is fused. Buy a fused distribution block, however many outputs you want, it's your choice. Usually the more outputs you have, the higher it's going to cost. Then from your distribution block, run 18 awg wire to your switch. Personally, I think it's the safest way of doing it.. after all, you don't wanna mess anything up and have your car start on fire.. You can pick up a distriution block from just about any electronics store from anywhere from $10-$200 depending on how fancy you want to go..

If you have an amp in your car.. just tap off the wire running into that. You don't need to get a distribution block... that's just for people that care about how theircar looks after the entire thing is done/.. but besides.. neon lighting wires are behind panels.. not in front so you won't see them anyways.
I'd go with nice 16 gauge wiring as extra wiring but 18 gauge should be ok too (depending on how far your planning to run the wires)... and how many lights you have attached to the wire.
I'd just go with a nice 16 gauge. If you're gonna do it once.. do it better.

i ran two wires from my cigarette lighter, one connecting to ground and one connecting to the power. The ground wire, i simply twisted with the stripped end of the ground wires on my 2 12: neons. Then i took both of the power wires for the neons and connected them to one side of the switch and then ran the wire from the cigarette lighter into the other side of the switch. I drilled a whole in the empty accessory plug and put the switch in there.
Now the neons can only come on if my key is turned to accessory or my car is on, and the switch has to be flipped for them to come on.
Sorry if this is confusing but if you read it a couple times, you'll probly get it.

Mine are set up similarly...I have a 12AWG power wire coming from the battery to a relay, and the relay is tripped by my cig lighter to turn the neons on when I turn on my car. Relay and wiring is hidding inside my center console, with the neons under my seats.

mine are wired into the switch on the fog lights. i simply found the wire that was dead when the switch was in the on and off position (using testers). i hooked my ground to that one. then for the power, i found the one that was cold when the switch was off, and hot when the switch was engaged. didn't have to install additional switch either.

I followed advice given by some very good 2k1civ members and wired mine to a relay (30), tripped by the dome light activation (85&86), then off 12v constant (87a)and a switched wire off the cigarette lighter wire (87), so that way if the car is off, they will turn on every time the doors open or keyless entry is used to unlock. Once the car is on, they will only come on if I flick my Ignited switch. Pimped.
